I’m sure one of you hard core LSU fans knows why he didn’t go to LSU. Thank you in advance.

LSU was loaded as shite back then. I don’t think they recruited him very hard

Because Skip was a horrible coach duhhhhh

He wasn’t offered. Skip wouldn’t even talk to him believe it or not. To be fair though, David was a good HS prospect but turned out to be a GREAT college player. He really went off in college. Overall a huge miss fir LSU as David loved and still loves LSU. To this day he will wear purple and gold and head to the tailgate on a Saturday night.

Had a conversation with David last summer & he said Skip never offered him. He said that Skip had never recruited a player from Catholic High & many locals were not happy with him. As a Baton Rouge guy, he really wanted to play for LSU.

Wow, that’s crazy. Thank you for the info

Skip was the biggest a-hole in sports before Spurrier and Saban. He just happened to coach here so everyone wets themselves over it.
Winning cures all ails. And you get away with a lot. Skip was a dick but who cares? Six titles...

Maybe so, but for the rest of the 90s it seemed like half the team came from Catholic High.

Jason Wall and Jesse Daigle, both Catholic High kids, were on Skip's team in 1990, Delluci's senior year of high school

Wasn't Daigle a John Ehret kid? I recall his dad was the football coach at Ehret before joining LSU in the 80's. Or am I misremembering?

FYI He is married to former LSU track star and current The Price Is Right model Rachel Reynolds. He did very well for himself.

You are correct that JD Sr was the HC at Ehret in the early 80’s. He joined the LSU staff in 1985 under Arnsbarger, and also coached under Archer. Jesse Daigle (QB) was part of the 1989 signing class with Chad Loup and he prepped at CHS. Daigle would have been in the 7th or 8th grade when his dad left JE and was hired at LSU.

Wall may have been a walk on and Daigle was on a football scholarship so there wasn't a real need to recruit either of them. Back in the 80s and maybe early to mid 90s, Catholic was average at best. Very few guys there played baseball after HS.

Skip said letting David get away was the biggest recruiting mistake he ever made.

David graduated in 1991. At least three CHS ballplayers who graduated in 1992 played for LSU: Tim Lanier, Kevin Ainsworth, and Brian Dougherty. David was just a miss for our staff.
