A Kentucky man with an anxiety disorder asked his former employer not to celebrate his birthday because it triggers panic attacks.

When the company, Gravity Diagnostics, ignored Kevin Berling's request and had a surprise lunchtime celebration for him on Aug. 7, 2019, he got upset. Days later Berling was fired, according to a lawsuit he filed in a Kenton County court against the company.

On March 31, a jury awarded him $450,000. The jury found that Berling suffered an "adverse employment action" because of his anxiety disability, court documents show.

Good. I don't need you to celebrate my birthday. If I want my birthday celebrated I'll do it myself or with my family.

This guy specifically asked them not to do it. When you do things someone specifically asks you not to do, whether it's a prank or in good faith, you're being an a-hole.

I'm not saying I'm fat or anything, but I first read this as Gravy Diagnostics.

They should’ve respected his wishes. But what a weak pitiful man to be so distraught over a lunch bday celebration.

He was likely more distraught that he felt like he couldn't expect his employer to respect his wishes regarding a personal matter.

He didn't throw a fit over a birthday party out of the blue. He specifically asked them not to do anything.

I don’t have anxiety disorder and I don’t celebrate my birthday. I rather not have the attention.

Thank god nobody ever took old boy to a TGI Friday’s on his birthday or the clapping servers would have made him hang himself

Pretty shitty for them to fire him after he got upset over them doing something he specifically asked them not to do. The fact that what he asked them not to do had nothing at all to do with the actual job makes them look even shittier for firing him.

Or the guy has sort of mental issues, severe anxiety can lead to a whole host of other problems such as suicidal depression

I’m the article they mention him being fired for some kind of workplace violence offense. What they did was extremely shitty.

I hope and pray you never have to deal with panic attacks. They can be debilitating, no matter what your narrow mind tells you.

400% chance the party was organized by a woman who thought it would be “fun!”

In other words, weak and pitiful. If a birthday lunch can set him over the edge then yes he’s an unstable ridiculous person

You should also throw in some prayers to stop you from being such an ignorant a-hole.
