Heading to MX City in June--staying with friends who live in Polanco. Any super cool things that can't be missed? Got Frida Kalho's house and Casa Luis Barrigan on my list already. Trying to find a guided tour of La Merced, too.

I just got back a month ago. It's an incredible city!

Polanco is a nice area to be in for sure, and I'd recommend walking through Alameda Central (basically their version of Central Park) for a bit.

The food is incredible. Highly recommend Pujol for dinner one night.

I’ll second that. Condesa is a great area of the city.

We used eatmexico.com for a tour, I recommend them. As for the market It didn’t feel unsafe at all and was pretty dead when we were there. It was pretty early, before lunch, imagine it livens up later in the day based on what I heard/read.

We really enjoyed the Bazar Sabado. It’s a large art market in a part of the city with cobblestone streets. We decorated a nursery with the items we bought. The San Angel Inn courtyard is a great spot for brunch before walking the market.

I think teotihuacan is a must see world heritage site but I love archeology and history. There is a restaurant in a cave at the site. It’s a little touristy but fun.

The national museum is also fantastic.

Completely agree. Like you said, a bit touristy but sometimes you have to suffer through some touristiness (a word I just invented) to see some sites. We did the hot air balloon ride over the ruins then had a private tour on foot. Incredible views.

I will say, the car picked us up at 5am from the hotel to catch the sunrise, so it can make for a long day.

This was one photo we took:

This thread makes me realize I know nothing about Mexico City. I would have no idea what I wanted to see without extensive research.

The best big museum in all of Latin America, in my opinion. Some incredible stuff in there. There are generally a good number of English-speaking guides available, and I suggest getting one, as the museum is so large.

You can easily split a day between the museum and Chapultepec.

I'm looking at Mexico City for later this year. It seems like everyone who has been absolutely loves Mexico City.
