And i'm fine with Batman focusing on crime, but what's the point of Bruce Wayne being a hermit?
That's just his personality right now. He doesn't care about the public spot light.

I still haven't figured out what has driven him to be that way. Is this movie portraying him as being that way his entire life thus far? If so, how did he get out of bed long enough to give a shite about fighting crime? Batman fights crime in Gotham b/c he cares about Gotham. Why is this Batman fighting crime?
Vengeance. But I'd say finish the movie. There was obviously even some strife between him and Alfred as well, possibly during his training. It's definitely a different take. It's not really even until the end that Batman himself realizes who he should be.

In the first few minutes of the movie he is reading his journal to the audience. He mentions that he has to write everything down because all the nights are bleeding into each other. He is a hermit because all of his time is being devoted to being Batman instead of Bruce Wayne. It's not a conscious choice to not be out in the open as Bruce, but he thinks it's more important to do his Batman work.
As others have said, it's really the entire point of the movie. Batman thinks terrifying bad guys and fighting crime will fix things. By the end of the movie, he has realized it won't. He needs to be both Batman and Bruce Wayne.

i get that.
What was he doing for the last 20 years as he grew up? That's my point. I have no idea why he became the Batman/Bruce Wayne he is in this movie. So he's been a hermit since his parents were killed and plotting his vengeance until he was grown up enough to become Batman? I don't need an origin story on Batman, but if you're going to be this different, then i kind of do need it. I have no idea why Batman even exists in this world. I get it, vengeance, but it makes no sense right now.

but why is he trying to fix things? If he's doing this for vengeance, then it doesn't seem like he cares about fixing anything, he just wants to hurt all bad guys as a way of getting back at the bad guy that killed his parents. If he wanted to fix things, then he would be doing so b/c he loves Gotham and wants to make it a better place, but how could he want that if he's never been out of his house to experience the city as Bruce Wayne?
like i said, maybe i'll appreciate this movie more after the next one or two come out. I didn't really care for Batman Begins at first, same as Captain America, but after more character development i came to really appreciate both of those movies a lot.

and that's why i said maybe after i watch it 2 or 3 times, or maybe after the sequels come out, i'll like this one more, but as for now, it sucks to me.
Don’t bother. If you hate it now, you’re going to hate it just as much later.

The whole point is that he’s pissed off about his parents death. So pissed off that he literally doesn’t care about anything else or himself.
As others have mentioned, it’s not until end that he realizes Bruce Wayne is just as important to Gotham as Batman is.
As much as people say this movie isn’t an origin story, it basically is one. And Batman realizing that Bruce is just as important is called is called a “character arc”. This isn’t The Dark Knight. It’s something completely different, and if you don’t like it, just move on to something else.

That is not how a character arc works
We never see the end result of his arc. He just realizes some shite at the end and you see no change on screen. That's it. This movie is a flat line through and through, and I'm disappointed reeves didn't see that. He's a better filmmaker than this.

Watch the rest of the movie. You still might think it sucks, but it answers this. I mean you're bitching and you've watched half the movie. At least finish it so you have a complaint that makes sense.

I still have hope for the franchise and this iteration of Batman because this is the best Gotham I've seen and I think Pattinson can be a good Batman.

You can argue that there isn't enough change, but there is some. When he falls in the flood waters, he essentially comes out a new man. He then guides the people of Gotham to safety. He stays on the roof of the "Garden" to help get victims to safety. Throughout the movie, he never really helps anyone. Sure, he helps the guy that is about to get beat up by the gang at the beginning, but that was more about kicking the shite our of some guys rather than helping him. The guy is terrified even after the gang is disposed of. Even at one point in the story, he blames the Russian girl for her own murder by saying she got involved with the wrong people. That's the arc. By the end of the movie, he realizes that he'd rather try to save Gotham instead of just stopping criminals.
The real change will likely come in the following movie. I guess you can argue that the character arc should develop a conclusion in the movie it is in.

like i said, i don't need one, or i should say i don't want one b/c its such a well known character, but if he's going to be this different then i kind of do.

It was a very good Gotham. The HBO series about the corrupt Gotham PD was cancelled but they are doing the series with Colin Farrell as The Penguin. That should have a good dive into Gotham.

Finished it. What a laughably bad Batman movie.
I’m really not sure what was even remotely good about it.
Terrible Batman, even worst Bruce Wayne, could care less about the villain, the Dodge Charger batmobile chasing the Nissan Altima, cat woman and Batman “falling in love” based on nothing, the score was horrible, easily the worst Alfred, although there was barely enough of him to even dislike, not a second spent on cool tech ( I take that back the contact lens camera was bad arse), Batman was shot at hundreds of times at point blank range never to be hit in the face, and not to mention the ridiculous political absurdity. And no I don’t care about the white privileged shitty comment. I expect it with these arse hats and can look past it if you just make a good movie, but this was shitty.

I loved it. Sorry your taste in movies is shite

Just saw this on HBO, and holy shite I loved it.
-Twilight dude was a a freakin awesome Batman
-Muscle car batmobile was freaking awesome
-Riddler was super creepy, sort of like Zodiac or Seven vibe to him
-Catwoman was sexy as hell. Her and Batman’s chemistry was dripping
-Really liked that he sort of failed. Feel like superhero’s always stop or prevail in the end. When ya think about it, this dude didn’t really stop a damn thing. He found the clues and put it together after the fact, but all the dudes still got killed and city still flooded. He becomes the light to fight for a better Gotham, but he basically got his arse whooped on the grand scale of things the entire movie, very rare to see
-Looked incredible. Idk how they’re filming some of these big movies like this and Dune, but they just look so wild
Awesome awesome movie, wish I would’ve seen in theaters, car chase would’ve been unreal.

It's the worst batman film since batman and Robin. Even rises was better than this.

I think Pattinson was a solid Batman. But I’m not gonna lie. His forehead and really the top of his head in general is huge. Ever since I noticed it, it’s all I can see when I see him in the suit

my taste in movies is different than yours, not shite.
I thought this was a pretty terrible and boring movie, but i will say that i think the next one can be a good one, as this one has set that up well, at least i hope it will. I'll watch it regardless, and i'd prefer to enjoy it.
