I've been putting off going to the theater. Now I don't have to go to the theater at all

y'all all really doing yourselves a disservice by avoiding the movie theater for this one. it's worth the price of admission.

Good.

We shouldn't have to wait 9 months for a movie to finally leave the theater anymore.

To put it in historical perspective, this is really par for the course for the Batman franchise. Prior to 1989, you had to wait at least a year for a movie to come out on tape. (Even afterwards, it was still pretty common. Jurassic Park only came out on home video after 16 months after its theatrical release.)

But Batman (‘89) came out on home video after only 6 months in theaters. (I want to say a Christmas-time home video release became standard for Batman movies up through the Nolan movies.)

Point being, we’ve been through this before with this franchise. ‘89 helped to kill $1 theaters.

Funny as a very small child I saw 89 in the $1 theater

people that would rather watch specific movies at home than at the theater, i believe, are sociopaths. no one can tell me they get the same experience from sitting on the coach looking at a walmart Onn LED TV with stereo audio like they do at a Dolby/IMAX theater. i almost would rather you people not watch it all because you're not going to get the full experience of this movie sitting on the couch. and then you all are going to come here telling us how "shitty" it is/was.

am i going to go to the theater to watch The Lost City, Dog, Ambulance, Umma, X, etc. ? no.

am i going to go to the theater to watch Batman, Avengers, Spider-Man, Fantastic Beasts, Doctor Stranger, etc.? yes, because they were made for a theater experience.

Only one of us is exhibiting sociopathic behavior, and it ain't me.

I’m just glad I’ll get to watch again with subtitles. I missed a ton of dialogue in the theater

so, are you cheap? lazy? both?

i'm serious. have you guys never had such a positive movie going experience that you just felt satisfied afterwards?

"On your left..." in Endgame had to be the most epic moment in my entire movie going experience. i understand not going to a theater to catch the latest rom-com or horror movie. but there are some movies that are just better in a theater. and in this day and age, yes, most of them are comic book movies. and The Batman is one of those movies that you really should, at least once, see in theaters. especially if you have a large format theater like imax.

the score
the audio
the visuals

it's all there. the feeling of being there experiencing it in a way that you'll probably never get at home or ever again when it does leave the theaters. if you genuinely go to the movies and never feel anything during those epic moments, i question whether you ever feel anything. i put it up there with seeing your favorite sports team winning a major championship.

The experience you describe doesn't exist anymore, and it was even on its way out then. Theaters are overpriced, and my TV at home works just fine and gives a better experience. Simply being able to stop the movie to go pee is a huge perk that you don't get at movie theaters. They should go back to intermissions.

ETA: I'd actually prefer to pay $40 to watch a movie at home instead of in the theater. I'd have been doing this for years if it had been available.

Sweet. Not about to sit through that for 3 hours in the theater.

I hate theaters now. Mostly because the older and wiser I get…the more I dislike people. The last thing I want to be is surrounded by strangers I dislike when I’m trying to enjoy a movie in peace.
