Thoughts on animal rights activist Carl Icahn taking over Kroger?

I don't trust these Uber rich assholes who say they aren't doing something for money, if it's not money then it's power. My guess is he wants to mess with the food supply.

Carl Icahn is expanding his animal-welfare campaign to the nation's largest supermarket chain, Kroger, after the famed activist investor initially targeted McDonald's.
Icahn has submitted a plan to nominate two candidates to Kroger's board, the Cincinnati-based company said in a release Tuesday.

"voiced his concerns regarding animal welfare and the use of gestation crates in pork production.

"I'm not doing that to make money," Icahn told CNBC's Scott Wapner on "Closing Bell: Overtime."
Instead, Icahn described his efforts as a response to his feelings on animal rights. "Emotionally, when you read about what they do to these animals, the unnecessary torture and cruelty, it really bothers me. Whenever I can do something about it, I try," Icahn said.

his letter to McMullen, Icahn said his goal was not to profit from this proxy campaign, but to make a difference in the "glaring injustices" at Kroger

Carl Icahn will never lack for steak, pork and/or other animal products.

This is not going to end well for Kroger customers

Purely depends on what he's doing. If this means Kroger will only get their meat from quality butchers than I'm fine with it. I appreciate the free market working on solutions to always make situations more humane.
If it's just a virtue signal, than nope.

I don't live near any Krogers, so no thoughts.

If Kroger wasn’t already woke as shite, this would do it.

I shop at Kroger. About a year ago I joined Sam’s and that is where I buy my meat.
Sam’s is already cheaper.
It sucks to stop at two places but it’s worth it.

the use of gestation crates in pork production.
She is transferred to a farrowing crate to give birth and nurse. The farrowing crate is not much larger than a gestation crate, but its different design prevents the piglets from getting crushed as they suckle.
After 3-4wks, the piglets are removed, and the mother is put back in her gestation crate to be inseminated and repeat the process. Icahn is simply lobbying for gestation pens which are still small, but at least allow the pigs to turn around and move a little bit in their confinement.

The "journalist" that wrote this article is an idiot. Animal welfare and animal rights are two different things, and this moron uses them interchangeably.
On topic, animal rights nuts can kiss my arse and should be nowhere near the food supply.

Kroger owns Harris Teeter, which is an awesome chain I've shopped in North Carolina.
The Krogers out here in Ohio are impressive; I don't know what you have down south. They build them huge now, with wine bars, cheese bars, Starbucks (if you like that), toy sections, etc...they are really clean, too.
Yeah, there are still some ghetto-ish Krogers, but that's not really the way they are trending.

This means you don't understand the meat industry at all. My Mom was the manager of contractors for Tyson Foods. She expected a full report from each vendor at the end of each week. At the same time, inspectors dropped in on growers for audits unannounced. All grains and feeds were provided by her department. Tyson monitored the suppliers at all times. The same is true of butchers for the meat producers ....This guy is FOS if he thinks the industry is not already at the stage where the last needed is a disease outbreak that suddenly closes everything down. What this tree hugger wants is to shut it down to suit his own ambitions.
