Huge mistake by Woodward; I guess we were thinking the same thing - too short of a resumé and a little too brash.

But looking at what he’s doing this season compared to Jay shows we were both wrong.

Should have been Vitelleaux

I think I may have been thinking emotionally because of how he ended CPM’s run with a bit of attitude.

Hard to swallow he probably would have come here in a second.

Shows you haven’t even really learned from your mistakes. You can’t judge a first year coach against someone in their 5th year. Conversely, if you didn’t see something like this coming from Vitello then yes, you were part of the snob problem.

Yep it probably would have taken more than we paid Jay Johnson but it would have been worth it without a doubt.

I loved his principles & his approach & his attention to detail based on everything he said this offseason.

The results on the field have been disappointing & have not matched that, despite great talent. I’m not writing him off but this team has a weird feel, almost like they are scared of him.

That’s what has hit me. I wanted Corbin, Casey (we’re not going there in this thread), Schloss, or McDonnell with Godwin/Bianco as fallbacks.

It’s scary that our AD has the snob mindset. Did it with football too with Napier basically campaigning on the radio and would’ve had Raymond/Sale as coordinators.

He was less snobby than some of our idiot fan base, he at least tried to get him. The problem was he didn’t rate him on a “do whatever necessary to get him” tier and that was a mistake.

While I can agree with some of your argument, let’s try to be open. The fact that some key personnel from his old team was willing to follow him was huge. And who went farther last year, Pulmonary or Johnson? Let’s give him 2-3 years please

They were 7-25 in the SEC the season prior to him taking over. Dead last in the East and 2nd to last in the SEC.

They were 9-21 in the SEC the year before that.

Safe to say he took over a horrible program.

LSU has been a .500 team SEC team, but still much better than that.

It’s okay to say Johnson was a good hire and can/should do big things here while also saying Vitello was the clearly the best choice available and we should have moved mountains to get him.

I mean He is in year 5 vs year 1.

Inknow everyone thinks this is the pinnacle of Jay’s talent but it would be nice to have pitchers and guys who can hit and field.

Goodness. Jay hasn't even had one recruiting class come through yet.

Are the errors something to be concerned about? Of course.

Vitello is the hot name right now. His team is #1 so let's get him. Just like last year it was either him or Corbin.

Give Johson some time. To be honest, the pitching is better than was expected. Fix the errors and that's half the battle.

At this point, I think it's more of a mental thing with the players trying to do too much.

We'll see what happens.

ETA: Glad someone posted Vitello's first year record.
