There is a scenario out there where Costa Rica beats USA by 4 goals, Mexico loses to El Salvador, sending Mexico to the intercontinental playoff. It's fun to dream.

I’m pretty sure we have to lose by 6 or more to not qualify…
ETA: frick Costa Rica and Mexico. I almost want to lose by 5 and see Mexico lose to El Salvador just for the frick of it.

It would be funny to see Mexico relegated to the inter-confederation playoff but let's be real they'd still win. So who really cares?

Didn't I read in another thread that 9 Costa Ricans are on yellows and would miss the playoff vs. New Zealand if they got a yellow tonight? I also imagine we won't be running our best lineup (and probably not even close to it) so this game will be very interesting.

Yep, a second yellow in qualifying carries over to the intercontinental playoff, but not the first match of the world cup.
However, if we have a player pick up a red card today, they would be suspended for the first match of the world cup.

Question about the draw on Friday....
Since the playoff games will not be done, do they just draw the "winner of" ball?
And are we excluded from being matched with the winner of NZ Vs Concacaf because of it?

Yes, and automatically slotted into pot 4 (even though Wales/Scotland should be pot 2 or 3).
And yes, it means we cannot play NZ because of it.
