Tom Brady's 'last' TD ball sells for $518K hours before Brady announces comeback

According to auctioneer Leland's, the previously presumed final touchdown of Brady's career sold for $518,628. Bidding for the ball started at $100,000 with the final price arriving after 23 bids early Sunday morning.
The winning bidder just spent half a million dollars on a random ball from a playoff loss that isn't likely to hold onto anywhere close to its six-figure value.

I saw a few comments on Twitter saying “It’s only fair Tom Brady make this right, and give him that money back” I mean seriously? Nobody was forcing that guy to spend half a million dollars on a football. If I was that guy, I’d be screaming from the rooftops right now though.

I have a feeling this may wind up in court. If he wrote a check or didn't do some sort of immediate wire transfer, he will either cancel the check or refuse to pay on the basis that the ball "wasn't as advertised."
Lord only knows what the resolution will be. The timing of the sale is suspicious.

Any reasonable person paying attention should have known that Brady unretiring was a possibility. As far back as early Feb Tom made comments about possibly changing his mind as time goes on.

I'm guessing it will depend upon how the ball was advertised. The exact wording may be crucial. If he hasn't paid yet (or timely cancelled a check or wire transfer), then the seller will be in the position of having to sue.

Since the seller wasn't a guarantor of Brady's lack of free will, this doesn't hold water. Also, anyone who can drop 500k on a stupid ball probably doesn't give a shite. Guy gambled, auctions are gambles never guarantees. He lost...unless he gets in Gisele's ear. But he has no legal recourse beyond remorse.
I mean, what's he going to do? Sue Brady for misrepresentation? That Brady induced him to buy this stupid ball by his untrue statement of retirement?
Seller is free and clear.

Yep, he had to know there was always the chance Brady could change his mind and buying that ball was a gamble. He gambled and lost

Supposedly he can get his money back if Brady throws another TD. That's what I've heard. Who knows.
There's been talk ever since Brady retired that he would "unretire."
If a guy has half a million to drop on a football then I'm sure he already has a good lawyer and 500k isn't going to set him back much for the time being

Seriously ? If you can afford to drop half a million dollars on a football, then you can almost certainly afford to lose it without it even causing you any indigestion… Whoever he is, he isnt ‘screaming’ from anything .

But as of right now, today, that is the very last TD ball that Brady threw though. So that angle may even be tough to argue.
Also, if anything this story adds value to the ball (obviously not worth what he paid if Brady does, in fact, throw more TDs though).

Strategy could still pay off. Double down and buy the one when he “really” retires and now you have the matching retirement set.
