Democrats introduced a bill on Thursday to tax the largest oil companies recording their biggest profits in years — and use the money to provide quarterly checks to Americans facing sticker-shock just about everywhere they look.

ep. Ro Khanna of California and Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island are the bill's main sponsors. Other co-sponsors includes Sens. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, Michael Bennet of Colorado, and Sherrod Brown of Ohio among others.

The plan would also establish a quarterly payment program to provide direct payments to Americans struggling with rising prices. The income thresholds were similar to the third stimulus check issued last year: Tax filers making under $75,000 for individuals and $150,000 for couples would receive the payments. At $120 per barrel, single-filers would receive $240 a year and joint-filers would get $360.

So those of us with jobs living in the suburbs pay even more for gas and the government gives money to Democrat voters in the cities without cars.

Got it.

Exactly, these fricking idiots would have been sabre-tooth tiger food at the dawn of mankind.

Advances in technology and medicine are clearly a double edged sword.

Yea, and we would use the quarterly checks to pay even higher gas prices.

Oil companies are not going to eat that. DUH!

Liberals are stupid people.

So to help gas prices and fight inflation we make oil companies pay more and introduce more free money into the economic?

Robbing yourself to pay yourself.

Honestly, it's just as sound as any other leftist policy.

How did they come up with this?

"Hey, how can we reduce gas prices"

"Let's tax the oil companies"

fricking morons. They live in a completely different reality.

Not so sure about that anymore. Anyone who has the means to make it into the swamp is corrupt or they wouldn't be there.

I disagree. There is no way what they live in can be described in any way as reality.

And then gas prices (and prices for everything else transported by gas powered vehicles or that contains petroleum in some way) will go up and then the checks will be worthless.

Do they have to give the money back to the oil companies when they are hemorrhaging cash when oil is under $40bbl?

Why can't we get term limits.

Per year. It's not worth the sacrifice of capitalism.
