Why has Eason become such a target for refs?

He plays hard. Never shows up the ref. Is a marquee player in the league. But he never gets the benefit of the doubt calls. The charge called against him was a egregious but a couple of the others were pretty ticky tack as well.

He aggressive in defense so he starts off with what would probably be a few legit calls.

He also drives to the basket and when you apply the charge rule like the refs do to LSU that gets him a few more that put him in foul trouble/foul him out.

Someone at the game told me that Eason supposedly told one of the refs that he had sex with the refs wife the night before.

Idk that could’ve been why

He, as well as most on the team make a lot of really stupid decisions defensively to pick up stupid fouls, and they are fouls.
You can complain all you want about Mowani's foul at the end, but it was a foul. You can't swing your arm like that at someone. You might get all ball, but in real time it's extremely hard to tell if you did or not, and the swinging motion get the foul called. The SMART thing to do would have been to simply trap him right there. He's cornered, time is running out, he probably can't pass over Mowani's long arse arms, and if he puts the ball in front of you then you tie him up. but trying to steal the ball right there, especially when your winning, was just a stupid decision, and we make stupid decisions like that all game so it's no surprise we do the same thing at the end of the game.

Early on in the season he was extending his arm which led to a lot of offensive foul calls. But he has not extended that arm in a while. Williams last night drew 4 charges, and only 1 of them was a legit charge.

This plus the fact the defense knows which way he is driving 98 percent of the time so they are getting close to the spot and flopping hard causing the terrible officials to terribly officiate.

Reputation clearly influences the refs calls, whether they should or shouldn’t. Williams got the benefit over and over.

Eason reaches 90 feet from the basket more than anyone i’ve seen. it’s not a smart play ever and i’m sure gives him the reputation of an out of control player or at least not intelligent one

Last year at Cincinnati he fouled at an even higher rate then he is this year at LSU.

Which makes the LSU foul conspiracy suspect at best

players have to play smart. Don't reach and give the refs a chance to blow the whistle.

And especially when a player already is in foul trouble, they have to be REALLY DISCLIPLINED to not reach, slap, or initiate too much body contact.

Yes, that means backing off a bit on defense, which is hard to do for an aggressive defender, but a player MUST think about these things and control their aggression.

It truly is basketball IQ.

And, just for the record, I LOVE Eason.

Ok. Explain this then: In SEC play, LSU has had players foul out of games 20 times. Our SEC opponents have had only 3 players foul out, total, against us.

Eason has a habit of picking up really dumb fouls (especially after a miss by him or another LSU player with the other team clearly having the rebound). With that said, he always seems to get 1-2 total BS calls per game (the charge and the phantom 5th foul last night). It's very hard to deal with. He has to try and eliminate those obvious dumb ones. He played his arse off last night. Deserved a W.

False

6/29 vs 4/24

He’s also played 16/29 games with 3 or more fouls compared to 10-23.

It’s not a bad point but it is an exaggeration.

He averaged 2.6 PF in and out of conference last year.

He’s averaging 3.3 PF a game in conference this year.

very misleading, Sammy. You're conveniently not considering that Eason is playing more minutes this year.

Extrapolating Eason's fouls per 40 minutes played:

Cincinnati: 5.3
LSU: 4.5

Summary: Eason is fouling 15% LESS at LSU compared to Cincinnati, per minute played.

Guess you really want to go there, Sammy

What do these numbers mean?

I will tell you why you are wrong in a minute

I 100% agree on the reaching 60-90 feet from the basket greatly impacts the refs. Both him and Reid do this constantly and it drives me up a wall. Those are the fouls that Wade talks about that we have to eliminate.

However, 2 charges against Eason and the last foul against him were absolute bogus fouls that greatly impact a game. If were going to criticize a player for committing dumb fouls then refs should be held accountable for calling phantom fouls.

Not just LSU. The way they call charges across college basketball is ridiculous. Falling down is not defense. Something that would get me laughed off the court at the local Y is rewarded in college basketball. Because it is rewarded, coaches are teaching 260 lbs. guys to move into lanes and fall down when a guard bumps into them.

Teddy is right.
Some are ticky tack, but others are earned. Reaching in or hacking at the ball 30+ feet from the basket is generally a bad idea.
Even if one or two in a game are bad calls, or tough calls, they don’t mean as much if you haven’t put yourself in the position to foul out. And even if he didn’t foul out lat night, he still missed a chunk of time in the second half with foul trouble.

And I’m not just talking about Eason. In general, there are too many fouls given far from the basket early in halves. How long did it take Arkansas to get into the bonus in the second half?
