His father is a pastor and wanted to make a statement about how greatness could be achieved at a HBCU and that black and brown kids didn’t have to go far away to achieve greatness.

I knew a few professors / instructors who worked at Southern.

I don’t think the problem was necessarily the quality of the instructors as much as the administration who was running things and who would insist kids be passed along despite failing.


FTR, since this will inevitably get asked, one was a Cuban emigre who taught Spanish and also taught at a local HS as well while the other was a computer science professor who was doing research on AI.
