Yellowstone River Fly Fishing

Heading to Livingston/Bozeman Montana area to do some fly fishing in late summer this year. Anyone ever fished around there and have guide recommendations? places to go, places to eat, other activities, etc?

Bring your checkbook. That area is just as crowded as Disney World, if not more, late summer.

I stopped at a rest area last summer that's next to the Madison.
Oh my word, I saw 16 drift boats in a small section.
I thought one of my home rivers was busy. It made me appreciate what I have that much more

We have a free place to stay at a buddies parents cabin, so saving money there let’s us spend money elsewhere I guess. As long as I catch 1 fish and drink a few beers I’ll be happy.

I did it a few years ago. I hired a guide and did a float trip. It was the most economical way to go for me to be sure i caught a cutthroat. That was on my bucket list. I fished on my own in the park on the road on the way to old faithful. My 7yo, at the time, murdered the rainbows!!!
I want to go back just to fish. Its like nothing else
We stayed in gardiner and fished east of there. There were a lot of boats but we caught. Went first week in july. Water was just clearing up from snow run off

Do you have any fly fishing experience? If so, you should do well on your own in the park.

Bring your own fly rod I would have fished when I was at the park last year but the only fly shop I found their cheapest setup was damn near $1,000 here I was looking for that $50-100 Walmart throw away vacation special

Fished this area a few times. Done the Yellowstone and also the Madison on multiple occasions. Best advice I can offer is to make sure that you don’t go with an angler that limits their operation to the Yellowstone. Some, particularly the yellowstone fly shop in Livingston, will only fish that river. They are awesome, but basically told us that they are about the experience of fishing paradise valley.
A lot depends on the clarity and height of the river at the time, and obviously the hatch. Had great trips on both rivers but just make sure the angler you choose will put you on the best river.

I am just trying to save you money maybe take Guide day 1 then have a reservation to rent a boat the rest of your trip. Guide service in Montana is diff Google Montana outfitters etc head scratcher and 600-800 a day some guides just want to get you down the river and take your money. Rowing any of those rivers is simple & if you want to practice rowing you can make a weekend trip to tennessee I have a guide that works for me and he will put you on the oars and teach you anything you need to know about being on the oars and any river in Montana Wyoming Idaho. He is a guide out there but finishing up School here.

My son and I did a float trip on the Lower Madison a couple of years ago. Stayed in an AirBnB in Bozeman and fished with a guide service that I think was pretty first rate. Had a fun trip, caught a good many trout for being complete novices with the long rods. Tons of wildlife too. And the food and bar scene in Bozeman was great.

Between WSP and LSU, I'm sure I know you as well. I'm originally from Winnsboro, which is how I know Starr, he used to date my friend's older sister, also from Winnsboro, when they were at LSU.
Not surprised to see he ended up as a fishing guide in that neck of the woods, Starr lives large.
