visited the area this past summer and if I was to move to the area, that would be where I would like to live.

My best buddy from HS lives there. They're never leaving and has been trying to talk us into moving there for close to a decade.

Very nice and safe, good schools and great for families
Very expensive - absurdly so
Very smug, lots of Yankee infiltration but MtP doesn't need that to be stuck up
Lots of traffic

Very nice but getting more expensive and overpopulated by the day. Old Village is the nicest, most expensive & closest to Charleston. North MP is getting more and more populated with subdivisions but is quite a haul. Good schools and safe!

Ain’t you hear Baw? Charleston is the only place a Baw is allowed to relocate to east of the Rockies.

Overrun with transplants but it is the best place in Charleston to live imo.

All of this is true and it's a shame how much it has blown up in the last twenty years. I lived there in the '90s and it really was great. Close to downtown Charleston: close to Sullivan's Isle.

I lived there three years. It's everything the above posters said. If you could time-machine back 15-20 years it is much nicer. But it's not a bad place to live right now.

Yeah I’d be a transplant Lol, but I’d fit right in.
I still have 10 more years left before retirement. We Stayed in Columbia when we went to see my Son when he completed Basic at Ft. Jackson, we went to Sullivan Island, Charleston and Folly Beach. We had a blast we loved everything there and wish we could have stayed longer.
There’s a good chance my kids will end up over there , meaning the south East as well, there won’t be anything left for us in Utah but that’s Ok.
Frankly I thought the folks of SC were more friendly as well.
My wife (no pics) is from Miami and wants to get back to the beaches, I love the beaches too. The fresh seafood, fishing and being able to go north and south along the coast is very appealing as well.
Thanks for the thoughts!

I have nothing against transplants. Everyone has a right to move where they want. My point is that it is just a bit crowded these days and it has lost a bit of its charm.

Yeah, I get that, we have the same problem here in north Utah. Our valley is small, we don’t have a helluva lot of water but the Californians are being let in building million dollar homes. We had more charm years ago too but the town still has it in its architecture in the older preserved parts of town.
That’s one of the things that we like about SC. Those gas lamps are cool.

Good for you, I'm jelly. Lived there in the early nineties when I was in the Navy. Base is long gone now. Mt Pleasant was pretty expensive back then, I can only imagine now. But its a wonderful place to live. Close to downtown Charleston and the beach. Just stay away from North Charleston.

It’s terrible. Stay in Utah.

Most people who live in Charleston are house poor.

I've lived in Mount Pleasant for a while. It really is a great area, but it's rapidly changing.

Like any other hot market, the real estate prices are stupid.

It has also lost its charm. The overdevelopment is out of control as land is being cleared left and right to stuff in new strip malls and cookie cutter homes. Traffic is a major bitch as more and more license plates from Massachusetts and New Jersey are overcrowding everything.

Sadly, the entire Charleston area is gone. John's Island is also going the way of Mount Pleasant, and the urban expansion kiss of death will soon take Awendaw.

It was bordering on overcrowded 20 years ago.

it is a fantastic town though.

Personally, if I was moving back, I would choose Moncks Corner. Far enough away there is less traffic. Good schools, several nice neighborhoods, and still has small city charm.

I lived in Summerville from 99 to 02. Its a hell hole of traffic now. It blew up way to fast for city planners to make adjustments.
