I would say we were the good guys by not wiping them off the face of the earth. Showing your opponent mercy when your opponent would not have done the same is the very essence of being a good guy.

bullshite, nuking Japan saved over 1M in US casualties after we had suffered enough. Hard decision to make but the right one at the time.
Also the conventional firebombing raids on Tokyo and Dresden were more destructive than the nukes.
The nukes just showed that we could repeat that at will with little to no casualties on our side.

Indeed. I think the most telling thing about the US being the good guys in that war was how we treated our enemies. We slaughtered them until they surrendered. Then, we made peace and as a result they became stronger and our allies. That's a win/win if I've ever heard of one.
