His fellow tigers can’t even throw him a catchable ball, that isn’t his fault.

No first baseman could have made those plays given the crappy throws from Thompson, Doughty, and Merrifield/Berry at 3b. Our fielding was terrible.

People have to find something to bitch about. Jay is still too new to bitch about him. I didn’t think our pitchers looked that bad. Not one single defensive player looked comfortable last night.
40 degrees and rain and our first game on turf probably had something to do with it. None of that seemed to bother Tech, though. I’m not worried. We got our first loss out of the way, now concentrate on fixing the issues. I think we might win another game.

Tre Morgan is the least of LSU’s problems. Some parts of our fan base are retarded. You must be new around here

He’s an Uber-athletic first baseman, making his footwork unorthodox and an easy target.
Absolutely love the guy but watch him closely - he will sometimes switch his feet mid throw and receive a perfectly thrown ball from the back of the base.

Two big take aways from the game: (1) too many errors against a very good team; and (2) our top four batters combined for 1 hit. Trey Morgan's defense wasn't the problem last night.

He often makes things harder than they need to be, but it looks spectacular when he’s successful at it. That’s where the hype comes from and that’s why unbiased people don’t think moving him off first base is some ridiculous thought. There were plenty of time last year that he could have stretched out and caught a ball in the air but he ends up not extending so he can catch it on the short hop. Over the course of a season, he might save a few more runs than any other option at the position, but he isn’t the saving grace people make him out to be. I still think he should be in the outfield with Berry at 1B.

Also playing on cold wet turf doesn’t look fun.

Morgan was not the issue last night. Pretty much everyone else except for Dugas and Joubert was

Morgan can catch any ball that is thrown in his vicinity. He cannot, however, cover a whole state or jump as high as a skyscraper. Those throws were the worst I can remember from any Tiger team.

I want to see who JJ puts at 3rd. Berry isn’t the guy and Merrifield doesn’t look comfortable there. I agree that moving Morgan to OF is something to experiment with. Can Jobert play 1st? If he can then you put Berry in the DH role.

I dont see people shitting on Morgan other than the Tech fan who was "At the game last night" pretending to be an LSU fan on here and thinks Morgan was the reason all those throwing errors happened because he cant keep his foot on the bag when a throw is 7 feet wide of the bag.

Merrifield is the guy at 3rd, I cant explain last night but the guy won JUCO national defensive player of the year last year. He can play 3rd...something was just up with him last night whether it be the weather, turf a combo of things, whatever.

Merrifield was a gold glover at 2nd base. I thought Doughty played a solid third base last season. To me, a simple swap would make sense.

You all will soon learn what AZ knew last year, Berry's defense is nowhere near his bat. While he's clearly one of the best hitters in the country, he's a liability wherever you put him on the field.

What about the two balls in the dirt that he should have caught? If he’s the best in the country those plays have to be made even though the throw should have been better

I've had season tickets since 2 years before the new Box. In that time frame, no one, I repeat no one has come close to playing 1st base as well as Tre.
