I don't think it's as important that he can recruit as it is that he can identify and continue to develop talent. What's the point of recruiting the biggest names and highest ranked kids if they either sign and never make it to campus or they just aren't as good as their ranking(therefore, the draft class ranking). What's important is that he can identify the talent that will make it to campus and can have an impact on the program and help win games.
Extremely doubtful that you get even 4 of your top 11. This is the downside of having such an amazing recruiting class. They're only ranked that high because you have a bunch of players who will never see campus.
The bigger question I haven't seen anyone ask is why does Jason Kelly have this job in the first place. There's really nothing in his past that suggests he's a top end D1 PC. There's no reason to assume anything will get better under him. Look at his history, talk to his former players. If we're waiting for some pitching metamorphosis where he's gonna take a project and turn him into a dude, I don't think it's coming.
"Caliber of player?" The only way you can justify that comment is if you base it on PG or PBR rankings. Fact is, many of the better players that LSU gets to commit never make it to campus. So your "top ranked" recruiting class doesn't turn out to be near what it's ranked to be. And what are those rankings anyway? Pure speculation. How's LSU doing this year vs Arizona? Arizona has a top 5 RPI ranking, they're actually playing some stiff competition out of conference. LSU's patsy schedule clearly didn't prepare them for SEC play and now LSU fans are complaining about CJJ. Point is, I don't think the difference in talent is anywhere near what you like to think it is. Rankings are crap, development is key, culture is huge.
I said before in a previous response that this is because JJ has always shown a willingness to put hitters out of position in exchange for some offensive production. While I don't disagree that this might net you some wins over a 55 game schedule(it will also lose you some), it is NOT a recipe for success in the post-season. If you can't play D in Regionals/Supers/Omaha, you ain't gonna win.

A few things LSU fans will quickly learn about CJJ:
1- He likes to overmanage games. Pinch hitters early and often.
2- Loves his matchups and will go with them anytime.
3- His offenses are known for walks and doubles. He doesn't have much patience for chasing balls outside the zone. This team doesn't have his stamp on them yet.
4- Not a ton of small ball or stealing. He's not against it but he wants baserunners in front of doubles.
5- His teams are not always great defensively. He likes having his best hitters in the lineup which means he's not against playing people out of position if it means a better bat in the lineup.

Never a good idea to try to "hide" a bad defender at 1B. Berry needs to DH.

You all will soon learn what AZ knew last year, Berry's defense is nowhere near his bat. While he's clearly one of the best hitters in the country, he's a liability wherever you put him on the field.
