The learning curve is quite steep, but there are step levels you can take to work your way up. You start with coaxial rotor (two main rotor blades) where you don't have to worry about torque. Fixed pitch is the next step, then collective pitch. It truely is a "hobby" that takes dedication of time, energy, and money.

I was fixed wing RC guy for several years and my roommate a rotor RC guy. I could never "enjoy the challenge" of learning so I gave up rotor RC. If it tells you anything, you can learn to fly a real helicopter and get a real rotorcraft pilot's license in less time it takes to get proficient with a RC helicopter.

That being said, I'd reach out to a local club where you will always find help for beginners. You didn't list your location. In BTR there is Red Stick RC Club that flies at Farr Model Airpark on River Road. I'm not sure if they allow rotorcraft or not. Your second place to visit would be a local hobby shop, but you have to be careful as some want to sell you something more than help you. Hobby Towne in BTR is a good one.

post pics of what you have. been flying Rc helis and fixed wing since i was kid. Chances are high any other enthusiasts can help you with what you have . If your looking to start flying its best you get a simulator and USB TX for your computer and learn that way. Otherwise it gets expensive repairing while learning.

Where are you located? If you are in Baton Rouge head over to Redstick RC at Farr Park on a weekend, bring some of your stuff and I’m sure someone there could give you some guidance. If you are looking to sell it Hobbytowne on Airline is hosting a swap meet on April 9th that usually draws a big crowd.
