Boat Shipping

Anyone ever purchased a boat and paid to have someone pick it up and trailer it to you? I'm mulling over a boat purchase in Florida but it's a 10+ hr drive. Wondering if anyone has used a shipping service before and how did it go?
I've received quotes around $650 but not sure how legit. It was a foreign fellow who said they contract with towers who are available to tow that route. Essentially a broker who contracts out the work if what he says is truthful.

I bought my boat in 2018 from the Keys and had it shipped back to LA. I hired a local oilfield hotshot driver. He went down empty and came back with the boat for cheaper than a boat specific shipping company. I don't remember what I paid, but I went back in my quotes and most were around $2k-$3k.
I looked into Uship, but most of those guys don't have proper DOT licensing and/or insurance. They were byfar the cheapest and most readily available, but I wasn't trusting them with my purchase. They can be difficult to verify. If you do go that route, at a minimum ask for a copy of their insurance upfront. Most will ghost you because they don't have it as they are just a guy with a truck and trailer hitch hurting for money.

I've used Uship and had a great experience. Guy had an actual company and insurance. I like how you can see previous reviews as well. My guy we went with had 308 reviews and 5 star average. He even stopped at the store to pick me up some new trailer tiedowns because the seller didn't include them.
Paid $1200 to to ship from Minnesota to Louisiana. About 1200 miles. 17hr drive.

I used Uship for to ship my motorcycle. I would check their rates. When I used them a few years back, it was very reasonable.

Thanks all. Did you purchase boats through private parties? Wondering how that worked out with buying a boat without physically being there to exchange the money?
I'm leery of getting burnt by either the seller or shipping service.

Mine was private party and done remotely. I emailed a completed, unsigned bill of sale from LA WLF website and a completed R-1331 tax form. He had them both signed and notarized and mailed back to me. I then took those originals to my notary and did the same thing. I emailed the R-1331 to the Dept of Rev for thier signature. Once completed, I emailed him a copy of all the paperwork and had my bank wire him the money. He then released the boat and title for transport. Done deal.
Make sure you do separate bills of sale for boat and trailer.

Get on "THEHULLTRUTH" or "BASSBOATCENTRAL" forums, they both discuss shipping boats, I think the hull truth you might even be able to hook up with an owner/operator that will tow the boat for you. Probably cheaper than going through a broker. Oh, and the guys that post on there that tow absolutely don't want a bad review and they will treat your boat like it is there own.

Look on ScreamandFly.com. It’s a website devoted to fast boats (Allison’s, Hydrostream, etc). There’s a guy on there (Frank Mole?) who does nothing but haul boats around the US and Canada. He would be my first call. LOTS of experience.

You supply beer and we will go for a road trip!!
Get a few of us together, couple 12 packs of beer, and food.
We will take turns driving.
Problem solved.

After buying a boat from a private seller make sure all your paperwork is in order to get everything put in your name and registered.
I luckily passed on an out of state boat, and after seeing the hoops the dmv and wlf had me jump thru for registering an instate boat I consider myself lucky that I was able to meet him in person a few times to get stuff notorized and signed

Bring ya helmets... Still mulling the purchase over but might not be worth it. I'm not shopping for an expensive hull and the more I look at this boat the more issues I find with it. The trailer it's sitting on is too large and I don't need to be dragging around extra trailer.
No rush so likely going to pass but this thread makes me think it's not an overly complicated process should I choose to go this route.

I don't know what you're buying, but my larger concern would be looking at the boat before you drop the cash.
Then again, maybe you've already had a local guy look at it for you.
As someone said, thehulltruth dot com is your go to. Should be easy to have someone look at it, and several shipping options there.
If it's much of a boat at all, I'd be pretty darn tempted to take a day off work and go get it myself.
Best of luck either way!

Bought a 23ft in last year from a boat dealer in Washington, North Carolina. This town was in northern NC. I Rented a Ford f250 power stroke and drove 15 hours from South La. Once I got boat, I did a turn around and drove it back. Had to hit a truck stop and take a 2 hour nap, then I drove that bad boy home. Overall, between the rental, gas and the mileage cost, it cost me around 800 total.

Looking for a hull that has been discontinued and they were only made for 6-7 yrs in the early 2000's by Triton called a Sea Flight. They made models from 18-22 feet but I need a 20 ft. Rolled gunnel boat so even if the paint is fading it wouldn't be a big deal to rehab it. They are simple boats so I plan on refreshing whatever I buy if it needs it so I'm budgeting for that as well.
The selling party runs a guide business on the side with it so I've seen recent pictures of current state. I wouldn't have issue with the condition of the boat. There are some bolt on items (Look like rod holder mounts) that I would remove and like I mentioned earlier the trailer it sits on is for a boat that's more 23-24 ft so 4 ft too big. I don't want to tow or have the space to park a trailer that's too long for a 20ft.

I paid to have mine barged. $3600 for an 18' boat. $150 per foot (trailer length). I just thought this might make you feel better about spending 1000 to have it delivered.

I purchased a boat from a private seller last year from Fayetteville North Carolina and had it shipped to baton Rouge. Cost me $1500. Flew up went and looked at boat, test rode, completed the sale, and hired a shipping company they picked it up at sellers house and delivered to me in Baton Rouge. Shipper even replaced 2 tires that were bad and charged me exact cost of tires. Could have probably got it done cheaper, but was near headache free and didn't waste 4 days driving to and from to go get it. 26' boat on its own trailer if it matters

Oh, be careful with uship, I have had horrible experiences with them and some of their "professional" shipping "companies"
