Is 1979 USC clearly the most talented team to play LSU in Tiger Stadium?

1979 USC - Had four 1st ballot hall of famers (Marcus Allen, Ronnie Lott, Bruce Matthews was a freshmen center, Anthony Munoz was a senior who missed the LSU game due to injury), two Heisman winners (Allen and Charles White), Joey Browner (80s all decade), Keith Van Horne, Hoby Brenner, Chip Banks (All Pro)
We discuss this game pretty often and how LSU almost (and arguably did) pulled off the unlikely upset, but the USC roster was scary.
1988 Miami - that beat a very good LSU team 44-3? Not many NFL superstars on the team but #11 LSU never had a chance.
Others I am missing?

There will be discussion about other teams. Maybe one of the Saban Bama teams but I agree with you. If they are not #1 they are #1B

I don’t think it’s even debatable

Perhaps other than a few Alabama teams, so not so clearly.

I was new to BR and had never been to an LSU game in Tiger Stadium. Was playing tennis right outside TS during the game and listening to the roar. Got season tickets soon thereafter and am now the biggest tiger fan around...

In 1979 final poll #1 Alabama #2 USC. USC beat LSU 17-12 and Alabama bear LSU 3-0. I remember that USC game; it was a really big event at that time. Don’t recall the Alabama game, though.

I was at that game. They were the most star studded opponent to play us in Tiger Stadium especially with their big star in the black and white striped jersey. The most talented team to ever play in Tiger Stadium was LSU 2019.

I was at both games that year. The Bama game was in steady rain the whole game. Sucked. Seems like we had one good opportunity to score that game and didn’t get it done. Remember two old couples sitting in front us that were Alabama fans laughing when first half ended because LSU fans were cheering Tigers off the field in appreciation for the effort and only being down 3-0. That’s when I first witnessed the Alabama conceit that many of their fans have. I was only 15 at the time.

Lost any shot at the NC that year with an inexplicable 21-21 tie at home against 5-5-1 Stanford.
Bama's 1979 NC team had an insane defense. 5 shutouts and only 2 teams scored double digits that year. Had they played each other, I think that Bama would have won.
John Robinson was USC coach that year and was a special assistant to Ed Orgeron for the 2019 NC team.

Even without Munoz their OL was the biggest I had ever seen.

No one expected to beat Bama

There was an article in the paper a few days before the game that mentioned how their OL players averaged about 15 pounds bigger than the freaking Saints OL at the time!

Maybe the best visiting team to play in Tiger Stadium. The best team to play in Tiger Stadium was the 2019 LSU Tigers!
