Question for the thread: if you had to assign blame for the first lap incident with Zhou, who would you blame?
I say Gasly for going for the gap.
Russell was being squeezed from his right by Latifi, but I suspect many will say him.

Funny you ask...
I have been wondering same question!
Is Gasly wrong for attempting split after he saw Latifi do the move?!?!?
Or
Is Russell wrong for closing gap after Gasly was half way through?!?!?

I don't see any reason why Russell did what he did, he had a ton of room to the right. I assume he just never saw Gasly

Race starts are chaotic and drivers weave sideways all the time. The danger occurs when someone gets a bad start and people are trying to get by. It was ruled as a racing incident, and that was what it was.

I agree with Axel BUT if I absolutely HAD to punish someone, gott be Russell.

I was blaming Russell 100% on Sunday, but getting to see a lot of replays Gasly definitely drove into a disappearing gap. He had no chance of pulling off the move and even tried to back out before the initial impact.
I can see why the racing incident and no call was made.

I will say it speaks to my earlier post...
3 things I DO NOT miss watching:
1. Qualifying
2. LIGHTS OUT
3. Martin Brundle Grid Walk the guy is Legendary!
BUT
I watched entire British GP.
Fast, wide circuit and lots a RACING!

Silverstone along with Monza and Spa are classic circuits. There is a reason they are so legendary with so much history. I personally love Suzuka and Brazil too!

You can see from the in car Russell looks to his left before moving over and the contact.
100% his fault.

Can't forget the Nürburgring here.

Fans reaction to Lewis's double overtake
This was epic. I can only imagine the energy and excitement in the stands those final 10 laps. It was breathtaking even watching at home.

I appreciate the Thread's participation, without hesitation, nor any hater-ation.
Much respect.

Absolutely enjoy the Thread!
Seems there are Expert F1'ers to Novice posters but all seem to really enjoy the sport and the conversations around it.
I consider myself still a novice automotively as this my first full season that I am fully emersed. BUT....
I do understand finance and business which is one aspect I really LOVE about F1 beyond the track.

This one goes into pretty in depth detail about what happened on that first lap crash.

I don’t care for Lewis, but the fans going wild was pretty cool.
Not to be a total redneck here, but Dale Jr for the lead at Daytona or Talladega are about the only times you hear a fan reaction like that in American Motorsports.

If you're referring to the Nordschleife, there's no other track in the world like it. Sadly it's no longer suitable for F1 racing. Fans don't want to wait that long for the cars to come around for another lap and it's too big to have complete camera coverage. It's also pretty narrow. Certainly it's as iconic as any other track on earth.
Now the GP track is another matter. I can't say I'm a big fan of that venue. Turns 2-4 are interesting and hard to get just right but the rest of it is kind of boring. I don't know who designed it but if you told me it was Herman Tilke, I'd believe you.
