Tolkien is my favorite author of all time and these are my favorite books of all time. I would have preferred them to never do this series in the first place just because I think it'll be too hard to do it justice.

That being said, I dont want the women dwarves to have beards. I mean if they had beards and looked like men the whole board would hate on it because it'd look like two dudes were making out. There's nothing wrong with having women dwarves look like women.

There's literally no point in replying to fatkid. The only time he has problems with source material is when its a black person involved and most of the time he's complaining about source material that he's never even read.

It's pretty clear that he's not even trolling, he's just racist.

Yeah, I'm surprised this board is actually angry that a TV series and/or movie is going out of its way for a woman to look like a woman instead of a man.

I also don't mind her being black. Serious question, does Tolkein ever specify their skin color has to be white?

I understand, in most sci-fi/fantasy most species are usually portrayed as only having a single skin color (Klingons for example), but unless the author or creator specifies otherwise I don't see an issue with their being multiple skin tones within a species.

I was really hoping this show would cover Lúthien and Beren.

That took place during the First Age. Maybe they’ll show some flashbacks to the First Age that covers a little bit of their story?

I've read them a lot but some on here are a lot better than me but I never recall a specific skin color being mentioned in any of the books.

Their height, stockiness, hair color, etc. is described, but I cant recall skin color being mentioned.

One of the dwarves in The Hobbit, I cant remember which one, was described as having a blue beard. I wonder if they were upset that the movie broke from the source material on that. I doubt it, since race wasn't involved.

I don’t recall him ever describing their skin tone. And only in some instances did he describe an entire race in such a way. For instance, elves were described as fair skinned. Except for the ones that were captured and tortured by Morgoth. They were disfigured and often had darker skin. You know them as orcs.

Agree, it’s not an outrageous thing at all, like when they remake a character that was white as black to appease the whole crowd.

Just nonsense. I also have a problem with gender-swapping characters. You just don't like that I'm right so you have to call me names.

Pandering to people of color by having them play a white character is racist, just like pandering to women by having them play a male character is sexist. They haven't changed the race or sex of the character. They've simply had a person of a different color or gender play the character. It's the modern-day "blackface," and is in fact MORE racist and sexist toward the actor who is playing that role than it is to the race or sex that was changed. It's admitting that you are simply too lazy to write something interesting for the race or sex you're trying to pander to, and instead you create something no one was really asking for.

You are free to flounder about and call me racist because you can't counter what I said above with anything even halfway approaching reality, but it won't change the fact that you know I'm right.

1. Buy a known franchise.
2. Ignore source material
3. Write an entire script with new age writers because they have to be better than the original writer.
4. Insert as many races as possible into the show because that is what will attract the most viewers obviously. Doesn't matter if it follows lore or not.
5. Profit for a few years off the SJWs. When the media fails blame it on racists.

I would be just as annoyed if they made Mulan black, Gilgamesh Asian, and etc.

Could be just the shot, but Elrond is a Noldor and they have dark hair.
But, at least I can see where the budget went. Everything looks pretty good.

What is the name of the character in this photo:

and how did Tolkien describe her?

What character in this thread was made explicitly white by Tolkein but is being played by a black actor?

Well, they have a dark skinned Puerto Rican playing an elf too, and the caption of the image from the story about this elf doesn't instill confidence about that storyline.

quote:

Bronwyn (played by Nazanin Boniadi) with her forbidden love, Arondir (Ismael Cruz Co´rdova), in the village of Tirharad.

So I'm sure the problem is that he's an elf, but since the actor is a dark-skinned guy it's going to be totally overshadowed by modern racial politics instead of just a general storyline about accepting other races. I wouldn't agree with changing the races of any elves anyway, but this seems like the worst possible person to change. The whole story is going to be overshadowed by modern racial identity as opposed to elves/humans.

That's the actor that played young Ned Stark, right?
