For those of you who travel to various National Parks, what were your favorite ones? What were your least favorite ones? Finally, what are some ones that don't garner tons and tons of attention (like Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, etc.), but you really, really enjoyed.

Favorite: Grand Canyon - it's truly a magical sight.

Least favorite: Congaree (South Carolina) - it's a great place, don't get me wrong. However, being from Louisiana, it's something that I'm used to.

Under-the-radar - Acadia National Park - Tons of great views, hikes, and terrain all throughout that park. While it isn't as majestic or grand as the parks out West, it is still something to see.

Under the radar: Carlsbad Caverns. Awesome and unique

Least Favorite: The Utah Big 4 got old to me, too similar. I'm not saying they don't all have some amazing qualities and worth visiting as they are. I just wouldn't recommend seeing them all together on the same trip.

Favorite: Yellowstone. So much there, many of which can’t be found anywhere else. It does lack dramatic mountains, but Grand Teton is right next door.

Least favorite: Cuyahoga Valley. It shouldn’t be a National Park.

Under the radar: Olympic. It’s not totally under the radar, but many people just think about the rainforest while the park has so much more. The Pacific coast portion of the park is a massive hidden gem.

These all left an impression:
Crater Lake
Olympic
Mt Rainier
North Cascades

Crater Lake is downright stunning; like nothing else I've visited. The combination of the water color mixed with the surrounding caldera cliffs is incredible. Also, it leaves quite a bit of wonder to think of the volcano that was there and now what is remaining.

I was able to visit Olympic, Mt Rainier, and the North Cascades over consecutive weekends last May. Olympic blew me away with its diversity; there's so much to see and do. Wife and I were able to partially hike a mile or two up a still snow packed Mt Rainier with microspikes (they didn't take us very far). Ran into some crazy arse people doing some crazy arse shite up/down Rainier. I'd like to the opportunity to explore the North Cascades backcountry. Only had one day and I had the feeling there's quite a bit more than meets the eye here.

Glacier by far has the most scenic backcountry in the lower 48.

I went to Zion and Bryce last October and thought they were amazing. Zion blew me away. Bryce was different obviously, but still amazing in it's own right, imo.

I'm going back to southern Utah again this October for Canyonlands, Capitol Reef and Arches.

Overrated: Everglades.

I had a terrific experience in the Everglades unlike any place I’ve been to. We got lucky on the timing so the weather allowed us to do a “wet-hike” as they called it.

Essentially it was an all day experience and due to Covid you provided your own transportation which was actually better than crammed in a tour bus. It was only 2 parties with 6 people total.

We start by driving to the park museum to explore and meet up where they guide give some interesting info then all pile into our own cars and drive to the next spot. About 5 stops total.

Highlights were:

Wet hike walking through the Everglades for about 90 minutes with water up to your knees occasionally but feet submerged the entire time. You see tons of animals (mainly birds) and exotic plants. The guide was super knowledgeable.

Kayaking through the freshwater mangroves with both crocs and gators all around but we were never in danger. About an hour. The mangroves were awesome to kayak through

Kayaking in saltwater where we got up close to some manatees until we went into open water to watch the sunset.

Highly recommend. But go in late March/early April when there are no mosquitoes.

Favorite - Lake Clark National Park (Also why I decided to live here)

Least Favorite - None

Under the radar - Big South Fork - Just because so many people go to the Smokies and overlook this incredible Park.

Cape Lookout and Cape Hatteras are incredible national seashores that are under appreciated.

Sounds cool and definitely would’ve changed my perspective. Both of my kids also say Everglades is their least favorite. We aren’t the type to just take a picture at the sign (although my kids do love that), pull into the best overlooks, and call it a visit. We hit the trails, catch sunrises and sunsets, and pack as much in as we can.

Some parks that I’d like to re-visit are wind cave and Mesa verde. The elevator was broken when we visited wind cave so we didn’t get to tour the cave. The surface of the park was beautiful and we did a few hikes. Visited nearby jewel cave national monument and the kids loved that.
At Mesa verde all of the cliff dwellings were shut down and our tours cancelled (during the height of Covid mid 2020). Also wetherill Mesa was closed due to road construction so we missed almost half of the park.

Zion and Arches are amazing, but they are also incredibly busy.

Bryce is solid, certainly one of the better parks.

As I said they are all great parks, not terrible. I think Utah does them a disservice by advertising them together though. We did a big trip to see them and by the end they start to run together with the red sandstone. I've spent more time in Yellowstone and GTNP and never got tired of the scenery.

They are definitely worth seeing, I just wouldn't recommend someone see all of them together is all.

This is my under the radar pick too. I hardly ever see people mention wanting to go there but it has to be one of the prettiest spots on the entire planet.

And If you see it in the Summer, you could go back when it's covered in snow and it almost looks like an entirely different place.

X2 on this! Just go to Crater Lake and Olympic on top of all.

But, no love for Yosemite of Sequoia? Wow they're amazing. Just can get crowded at certain times of the year.

Wasn't a fan of Hot Springs.

Favorite: Glacier, with honorable mention to Grand Teton.

Honestly cannot think of one that I've been to and not enjoyed. I guess my least favorite is Great Smoky Mountains, but there's nothing wrong (it's actually great for what it is), just doesn't compare to out West.

crater lake is probably the most visually arresting NP i've been to, but its a two-day visit max. we stayed in the lodge, drove the rim, hiked wizard island...and thats about all there is to do

but yes it is magnificent and a must see

Favorite: Glacier or Zion

Least Favorite: Grand Canyon because of the disney-like crowds, but I've never hiked that far down in the canyon, which is a completely different experience than just hiking along the rim.

Under-the-Radar: I guess it'd be Olympic since not as many people go there. Its awesome, and I would like to visit again.

We are going to Yosemite and Death Valley in April for the first time. Very excited.

Care to tell me more? What to do? Where to go? Trails to hike? Kayak? Raft? Where to stay/eat?

I looked it up and I'm intrigued.
