The 25 limit for A&M and Georgia

247 has both A&M and Georgia as signing 29 high school kids… Did they both have 4 spots to back count..? It looks like they both signed 23 last year when you add in the transfers.

There are so many ways around that 25 limit now

You can sign 32 they upped the roster limits because of Covid.Hopefully they go back down or this will be the norm

What’s the connection between the two? Both former assistants to little Nicky. They both learned how to cheat from the best.

All the backcounting and increase for Covid or whatever reason of the day needs to stop. They actually need to cap it at 20 with no backcounting.

If getting enough NIL money they can put them on roster as walk ons

The limit was 32 this year. You could fill those 32 with high school recruits, JUCO or transfers.

From what I seen it's 32... 25 high school.. 7 transfers if you lose 7 in the portal... So.. Idk what is going on

Agreed. 22 is probably the number though. There is no reason not to sign 25 under the current system. Fill them however, you need to. Setting the number at 22 would address some of the NIL concerns between the A&Ms of the world and everyone else. At least that way, once your done offering w/ NIL, you're done. No gray-shirts or anything like that allowed anymore. I would like to eliminate NIL being used just to hurt other programs by restricting the number you can sign every year.
So if A&M wants to spend millions on 22 kids, fine. The truth is A&M should have been done in December according to the 25/year rule under normal circumstances where they would have to let some kids go.

You are correct… I forgot to mention it’s 25 plus up to 7, if you lose 7 players due to transfer, or even early entry into the NFL draft, but you can replace those transfers with high school recruits, JUCO or transfer portal players.
I thought the same as you until someone posted the actual wording of the NCAA ruling on here a while back. Apparently, you can fill those extra 7 spots with any recruits, not just transfers, and it looks like almost every school had those extra 7 spots to fill.

It's up to 25 for some combination of HS, JUCO, and transfers (all initial counters). If up to 7 from the current team goes into the portal after a certain date, then you can take up to another 7 of HS, JUCO, and transfers (all initial counters). If more than 7 from the current team go into the portal, then you're out of luck. If no one from the current team goes in the portal, then you're capped at the 25 (or more if you can back-count).

The upped the limit on the same year that NIL hits recruiting. aTm caught lighting by realizing it was legal bribery before everyone else.
Most of us thought it was about kids getting money off jersey sales and local radio spots. aTm knew you could just fake it all and write a bribe.

And don't forget you're still capped at 85 for the roster. So some schools who are allowed up to 32 this year can't b/c they didn't have a large senior class and can't fill up and go over the 85.

So conceivably you could force 7 players you no longer want on your team to transfer so you can sign 32 new high school recruits.
Lovely.
Way to even the playing field NCAA.

IMO, in this case only transfers or JUCOs would be allowed in for transfers who leave a program. Allowing high school recruits into this is where you'll get these variable numbers from year to year.

Yep. There will be a lot more players in the portal over the next few weeks. Some of them will enter the portal. Some of them will be portaled.

Thing is, it's not really cheating. It's taking a bunch of poorly written rules by the NCAA, finding a shite ton of loopholes and "interpreting" rules differently than other schools, and pushing the envelope. All the while knowing no one is really going to step up and say "Hey, you have tell some of the kids you signed they actually don't have a scholarship"
There's no central database for initial qualifiers, not at the NCAA level, SEC level, nothing. Each school is just keeping track as they see fit, and if the NCAA would eventually come snooping then they would have to defend their position. Otherwise, it's full steam ahead
Unfortunately, LSU compliance is ALWAYS going to take the most risk adverse, narrow view possible when it comes to stuff like this. Never going to be proactive, or innovative in looking for ways to squeeze in extra kids. They are going to go above and beyond to color inside the lines, and we're going to have to just get used to hearing about "no room" at LSU while other schools sign 27 kids a year for 10 years and claim "backcounting"

Wrong. The NCAA limit of 25 initial counters (HS, JUCO or Transfers) remains in tact for this year and succeeding years. For this year the NCAA granted a one-time waiver that allows up to 7 additional initial counters (HS, JUCO or Transfers) if certain criteria is present.
If a school qualifies for all additional allowed initial counters, that school can sign up to 32 players, which can be any combination of HS, JUCO and/or Transfers. The 25 high school/7 transfers that has been wide spread on this board is pure bullshite.

quote:okay, now I get it. I always thought it was 25 whatever then an extra 7 transfers based on if 7+ transfered out. That is why TAMU and others had such huge high school classes. I think TAMU has something insane like 26 4 and 5 star players before you even get to a 3 star.
