Everyone who I've talked to likes theirs. Side sear depends on what else you have at your disposal. If you have a gas grill or Blackstone then you can always sear on one of those.

It's a good package though. I wouldn't hesitate buying one

I bought one last year, the woodwind36. I didn't get the searbox but instead got the sidekick with the searing attachment. I also got the pizza oven and the griddle attachments.

The smoker is amazing. It's just as good as my bull from a flavor perspective and has some nice features the bull lacking. It's not a stick burner, but it's damned close enough and is a literal easy button.

The searing accessory for the sidekick gets more than hot enough to scorch. It's so fast and easy to do a low temp heavy smoke reverse sear on a steak (or burgers) to 110 or so then move it 1 foot over to a million degree grill.

The ONE note is that it is a bit top heavy. If a strong gust blows broadside across it and you don't have it secured, it's blowing over. This happened about 2 months after I bought it. It was undamaged except for the lid was badly bent. This was a big deal because it needs to close sealed. I called Camp Chef and the sent me a new lid free of charge.

It's the best, and most versatile you can get in the $1000-1200 price range.

You’d go 36 over 24?

Req tecs seem to get a lot of love for their build quality but I like the versatility on this one

Did you buy from BBQ guys ?

Yes absolutely. I wanted enough room to do two briskets or two pork butts. Plus, it’s very good a grilling and the extra room is important when you’re do a bunch of wings or burgers. My favorite part of the entire setup is that you’ve got four plugs for temp probes and you can set temps. Plus you can be in another city and control the temp and smoke of the pit from the app.

Yes awesome smoker. Especially if you like to reverse sear/smoke then throw it on the sear box. That’s a big reason I got mine. The cleanup is also super easy

I have a rec-teq, but just generally speaking, if you can afford the bigger grill/smoker, get the bigger one. You’ll never find yourself saying “damn, I wish I had gotten the smaller grill/smoker.”

I wanted the 36 when I was shopping for one. It seemed like an awesome cooker. I could not find one anywhere even went as far as contacting camp chef and they could not give me any sort of lead time.

I ended up buying a Traeger Ironwood 885 and love it. It doesn't really sear, But I have a weber kettle, propane grill and green egg that are all capable of this so not really a big deal. I don't think you can go wrong with Camp chef though.

I have a 36” Camp Chef we keep at work. The plant is out in the middle of nowhere so we smoke, grill, and cook a lot in the office oven to feed everyone.

My neighbor has the one you are asking about and he’s not a fan of the sear box. He bought some sear grates for pellet grills and likes that better than the sear box. He complains that sear box is a pain to clean although I saw a review above earlier and the person mentioned his was a breeze to clean. I like the 36” one because it will cook a massive amount of grub when needed. I’m fine with no sear box because I to like those sear grates too.

I think I'm going to pivot over to one of these gravity charcoal smokers either this one or a masterbuilt 1050

OP asks about 2 specific pits and gets recs on 18 different pellet grills...lol.

I have the MB1080 and I freaking love it. I got a great deal on it and you can too if you contact NolaGT on here. The brisket in my sig pic came off of it. Outstanding bark...something you can't get off of a pellet.

I will say though, the Char-Griller has a few options that I wish the MB had. By all accounts it's a badass smoker as well. Check out Tom Horsman on YouTube. He has both and does a great comparison video between the two.

I have the MasterBuilt 800 (also from NOLAGT) but so far I’m very happy with it , had it for about 6 months but it hasn’t disappointed me it’s ideal for those larger cuts and long cooks, the only con I have is their app drops connection from time to time
But believe they just got that fixed with an update but haven’t tested it yet
Plus being able to swap in the griddle attachment is what really put it over the top for me
Some good fried rice, outdoor breakfast cooks and smash burgers along with long smokes
I was sold..
