Watching Utah this year--and I use that name purposefully--it seems that not only has the team abandoned the traditional franchise colors of purple, green and gold for a kind of burnt umber motif on its uniforms and arena, but that it further is not even using the "Jazz" name any longer.

Hey Salt Lake: If you aren't gonna be using those anytime soon, any chance we can get them back?

Sincerely,
New Orleans Basketball

Serious question, what do you even mean by this?

This question for the 100th time.

The Jazz have a rich basketball tradition in Utah.

The Lakers have a rich basketball tradition in Los Angeles.

Take a look at Vivint Arena. Now some kind of orange and yellow color scheme with "Utah" along the baselines. No Jazz name or colors on the court.

Uniforms likewise changed to a kind of burnt orange and yellow scheme with Utah on the front, no Jazz logos.

Not using the colors or name. Maybe its temporary.

Question prompted because Utah doesn't seem to be using much of the original colors or Jazz logo on uniforms or in arena.

Agree they have a good tradition (though hardly Lakers like), but if they aren't really using the colors or name, opportunity to repatriate. Jazz heritage is central to New Orleans heritage. All time great pairing of city and team name. Tongue in cheek, but of course would love to get name and colors back if they aren't going to really use them...

The Lakers won a few titles in the land of 10000 Lakes.

What did the Jazz basketball team ever do in New Orleans?

NOLA HorniPels> NOLA Jazz in terms of success to put in perspective and they’ve been here far longer.

This isn’t the Baltimore Colts or the Cleveland Browns.

But nice shiny hook.

I’d prefer jazz to pelicans. But think we missed a huge marketing opportunity not using the voodoo name.

Pelicans just has a double A baseball team feel to it. It’s a big goofy bird. Voodoo would have been so badass and the brand wound have sold so much.

I thought so!

I'm really talking about something bigger than basketball. The Jazz was here for a short time and at the nadir of the NBA. I was in the Dome as a kid and those games were usually packed even with a mediocre team. Of course, a lot of that had to do with Maravich.

Argument is Jazz nickname and colors should come home not because of the relative performances and histories of the franchises, but because that name and those colors are integral to the culture of the city--especially if Utah is rebranding away from them. Don't know if you're an Orleanian, so it may not register with you that way.

I think just from a business perspective, a return of the Jazz name would be a valuable asset for the New Orleans franchise. With the change of ownership in Salt Lake and a new marketing plan that (apparently) doesn't make much use of the name and colors, maybe there is a deal that could be made. Doubt it, but stranger things have happened.

The Pelicans bend is cool. Very much Louisiana. I really do not get the hate. The colors are solid also.

That this still bothers people is hilarious to me.

Do you call the Lakers only by Los Angeles?

Ehh I have never liked the name or branding. It's goofy. Just doesn't feel like a NBA team name or logo..

As much as I like voodoo, Pelicans fits better considering there's multiple birds used in pro sports.

Voodoo is an arena league team

I actually just went and looked. Just us and the Hawks in the NBA.

Most NBA team names aren't animal related. There are mostly locally tied to the area and just themes. I never realized or thought about the Heat and Suns. There is kind of a conflict there.

Red white and blue is solid? Probably the 2nd most boring combination.

They have multiple uniforms, some day Jazz, some have the jazz note.

They also have 2 courts, one says Jazz and also has the musicals note.

I really think they've done a major rebrand this year with new colors, uniforms and court design that do away with the old Jazz colors and court graphics. I've seen a number of their games on league pass and this is all I've seen this season...
