What is the deal on LSU wearing white jerseys at home, who knows the rule, I was under the impression that visiting teams had their choice of which jerseys they could wear.

A guy posted this on yahoo answers:
White Jerseys — LSU is the only college football teams that wears white jerseys for home games. The tradition started in 1958, when Coach Paul Dietzel decided that LSU would wear white jerseys for the home games. LSU went on to win the national championship that year. Since then, LSU continued to wear white jerseys at home games. Then in 1982, new NCAA rules prohibited teams from wearing white jerseys at home. Because of this, LSU wore purple jerseys during home games from 1983 to 1994. In 1995, LSU's new coach, Gerry DiNardo, was determined to restore LSU's tradition of white home jerseys. DiNardo personally met with each member of the NCAA Football Rules Committee, lobbying LSU's case. DiNardo was successful, and LSU again began wearing white jerseys at home when the 1995 season began. In LSU's first home game with the white jerseys, unranked LSU staged a stunning 12-6 upset victory over #6 Auburn. In 2000, LSU's new coach, Nick Saban, altered the tradition of the white home jerseys: now LSU only wears white jerseys for the home opener and for home games against SEC opponents. For non-SEC home games other than the home opener, LSU wears purple jerseys at home
I think that last line is no longer true... i dont remember seeing purple for north texas...
Also the guy who posted it had the SN PhatPhil and an icon of the Stay Puft marshmallow man decked out in orange....

I just want to know who it is every week that places that call to ask permission to wear the whites....Is it Joe Alleva? Les Miles? ...or some student intern...cuz you know that specific job function is written into somebody's job description lol

ooc games we have to get the other teams permission. SEC games we wear white.
this was talked about a ton for the app state game.
i never knew the stuff for sure myself but there are a number of people that are usually correct on a number of things and this is what they all agreed on.

Im pretty sure its pre-decided... I hope they don't spend time the week before the game worried about what "outfits" will be worn for gameday...

I'm shocked at how many people have no clue about the jersey rule. Its simple. Memorize it. LSU wears white at home for SEC games and DOES NOT need permission. SEC rule (after 99 season) says that home team gets to decide jersey color. The NCAA "Dinardo" rule of 1995 gave home team right to wear white at home IF it got permission first from visiting team. So for NON SEC games, LSU must get permission to wear white at home. For SEC games, the home team decides jersey color and doesn't need permission.

The equipment manager notifies the opposing team's manager what they plan on wearing for the game.

So you were born in 1953, say you are a Tiger fan, and have been a member on this board since 2004.
One question, are you retarded, or just like attention?

Wrong.....See Georgia Tech.

I think GTech no longer wears white at home. This just changed a few years ago, maybe under Chan Gailey.

We wear WHITE for home SEC games and PURPLE for home NON-CONFERENCE games. It's been that way for a while now.

Wrong Sparky, We wore white against Va. Tech last year, and Appy State and North Texas this year. There is no rhyme or reason to the non-conference home games.

well so far this season Paul Johnson has had the team wear white, so hopefully they continue that trend.

We have to get permission... even from SEC teams. Remember when Vandy wouldn't let us were white, so we wore GOLD tops with no stripes on the sleeve.
Spurrier did it to us too in '95, I think.
