This is evil, just like the “ghost” patrol cars and tahoes the LSP use.

Those aren't just regular road troopers, those are used for interdiction and aggressive driving task force work.

If you’ve ever driven the stretch of 190E that connects I-49S to I-10E is South Louisiana, you’ve experienced something similar.

4 officers is more than enough for a town of < 1,300.

3 officers running three 8 hour shifts. 2 holding the ranks of officer - corporal, one with a rank of sergeant serving as a de facto deputy chief. And then the chief (Lt - Capt) in the department running administrative responsibilities.

9 officers is overkill by multiple of 2-3x.

Edit: You can probably get away with only 2-3, but 4 is the absolute maximum.

You could do that if the department was only open during business hours and had an on-call arrangement. Once you factor in PTO, the department would spend so much on OT that more officers would be justified financially.

But how many SWAT raids need to be conducted in a town of 1,300?

A department only opening during business hours is sufficient for such a small town.

Many small towns have arrangements with the county sheriff’s office to provide back-up and/or investigative assistance to take some of the load off of the PD.

So in two years they went from having one cop (the current chief) and one marked car to an unknown number of jackboot thugs with 9 unmarked SUVs and a "riot control vehicle" to harass residents and people passing through. Also, in that two years, they went from collecting just over $80k in fines to over $2.3MM?

frick that POS "chief" and his nodding lapdog mayor.

I'd love to be able to see the jump in lifestyle that police chief now lives compared to 3 years ago before he took over.

Absolutely none.

I'd be surprised if the county even has enough work to justify a swat team.

I live in a town of about 10,000, and our police department has maybe 40 employees if you count the janitor and secretary.

They also handle other responsibilities, like animal control.

I think it's a reasonable expectation that a town should always have a police officer on duty. Maybe a small department can cede that responsibility to the county in non-peak or non-business hours, but I don't really know.

Don't they get around this technicality by having officers deputized in neighboring areas.

Hell, I don't know but that sucks if that's the case. Maybe I need to stop speeding around cop cars whose jurisdiction I'm not in because I step on that pedal as soon as I can tell they can't pull me over

They used to block all four lanes of HWY 49 going through Wiggins MS and have cops going up the lanes walking profiling people waiting in line to havre papers checked. They would radio up to their buddies when they spotted someone they suspected who would then walk around the car and tap on it to make their untrained mutt bark. They extorted many naive kids after tearing apart their car and finding a little weed. Probably destroyed many otherwise good kids lives too. They are still bad in that town but have stopped that massive operation of blocking 49 which has a huge median between the lanes
