Supreme Court to hear case of high school football coach fired for praying on the field

The Supreme Court said Friday it would hear the case of a Washington state high school football coach who was sacked for praying on the field after games.
Joseph Kennedy, who was barred from coaching football at Bremerton High School in 2015, will have his case heard by the high court in April, his attorneys said. The coach was a graduate of the school who coached there from 2008 to 2015.
“Six years away from the football field has been far too long. I am extremely grateful that the Supreme Court is going to hear my case and pray that I will soon be able to be back on the field coaching the game and players I love,” Mr. Kennedy said in a statement.
Mr. Kennedy said he was suspended from the final game of the season in 2015 by the Bremerton School District. School officials said Mr. Kennedy’s private prayer at the 50-yard line — which had been allowed for seven years beforehand — violated the First Amendment’s Establishment Clause, which bars governments from establishing a state religion. Students occasionally gathered around him, although he said he never invited their participation. The district offered to let him pray in an off-field press box or “an athletic facility,” but forbade his praying on the field.
The Supreme Court declined to take up the case in January 2019 and asked the lower courts to continue to develop the factual record. In a statement issued with that denial, Justice Samuel Alito said, “The 9th Circuit’s understanding of the free speech rights of public school teachers is troubling and may justify review in the future.”

The justices, however, likely will schedule arguments this term in the five new cases that they granted. The case of the football coach involves Joseph Kennedy, a practicing Christian whose religious beliefs require him to “give thanks through prayer, at the end of each game.” When he began his job as an assistant coach at Bremerton High School, a public school in Washington state, he initially prayed alone after games, but over time some of his players – and eventually a majority of the team – joined him. One parent complained that his son, a player on the team, felt like he had to join in the prayer, even though he was an atheist, or face a loss of playing time.

That’s funny, they didn’t like him doing it in the open, in front of folks. Their life MO is rooted in fear

I have always said that it takes a warped mind to believe that somehow the free exercise clause disappears because of the no law clause. The problem is too many people believe that separation of church and state is a thing but they don't understand what it actually means.
It's just more liberal intolerance and this is coming from an atheist. If a person believes and wants to pray and then other people who believe also want to pray with him that's called freedom and I don't give a fuk where you work. If he was mandating people join him that would be a different story. But the current interpretation from the left is complete Insanity

One kid an atheist, started all of this. If he doesn't huddle and goes and gets water or something he wouldn't be benched.
In society we all have to get through things we don't like. The atheist kid could just say yabba yabba yabba to himself in the short prayer.
Also: where is ACB on this? The federal govt should not be running our public schools with their neo nazi SEIU teachers unions & woke Karen's to begin with.

This happens now because Marxists are now in the judicial system and school systems and the only recourse this guy has is the SCOTUS which is sad. This used to be America.

I can kind of understand where the kid is coming from, even though there were no school pressures, FCA was peer pressured like a mofo in my middle school.
That being said, if the coach didn't pressure than he should be able to pray how he wants.

No prayer in public schools or Christianity. But teaching kindergartners about sex and transexuals LINK is just fine.
Sexual ideals of demoralization outside of biology 101 basic concepts is within Transnational progressive marxism. (Is a cult practiced by govt since at least Obama & now outright in full view) is allowed in schools. Also under the guise of Critical Race Theory.
Which is teaching children race-baiting racism. Which derives from Black Liberation Theology
The Churches (AME) and others hijacked by the democratic party (The only way Biden won his primary in SC) Are full-on complete hypocrites for their fake platitudes espousing Black Liberation Theology under the guise of Christianity.

Black Liberation Theology is derived largely from the racist “Black Theology” of the Black Nationalist movement, which is a cult religious movement that sees the white race as literally “Satan” and the black race as literally “God.” This is an adventist cult movement in the sense that sees Armageddon as a imminent final conflict between the white and black races. After the destruction of the white race, lead by the Black Messiah, a Utopian kingdom on earth is created, which will be a physical, theocratic government. The black messiah is manifested in any man who leads the destruction of the white race and, according to their doctrine, there can be more than one Black Messiah at the same time.

The free exercise of prayer in Christianity, threatens the left's deity, Government. Of course the left can't let a person's belief and trust in religion exceed that of government.

Interesting case.
I am wondering if he prayed out loud or in silence. Because if that is the case, leftists are now banning thoughts?

Oh no you were peer pressured to believe in the Bible? More than tic tok or underage drinking or some stupid shite? They wanted you to have a good life? Bastards

If the atheist son was worried about losing playing time, he was probably a marginal player at best.
Talent doesn’t sit if a coach wants to win.

Question, if you are an Atheist why would you not want to pray so your playing time will not be cut? I mean prayers are just word. Directed at something that doesn't exist.
Athletes often take harmful drugs to gain playing time. They will run suicide drills etc to garner playing time?
But it too horrible to take a knee and look at the ground while your coach prays?
I don't buy that. If an atheist wont do that for playing time they instead must actually believe in God but are just refusing to submit to Gods will.
Sooo many atheist or just to antichristian for them to be real atheist.
I mean it makes sense that a Muslim would not be ok with a Christian prayer and vice versa. But if you really believe it is all bullshite you wouldn't give two shits.

I have no problem with letting him do this as long as they don't discriminate against non-Christian religions. A city allowing a manger scene or opening a council meeting with Christian prayer is fine, as long as they let other religions participate.

Well good news then, they only do this to Christians.

The 1st amendment was written to prevent the federal government from forcing citizens to worship a particular way. It was not written to prevent religion from existing in the public square at all. Quite to the contrary, most of the founders were very religious men who integrated their faith into their public lives. They instituted days of public prayer and prayed to open official (public) meetings.
That being said, I would be happier if our Constitution at least confessed that Christ is Lord of lords and King of kings, even if no one was obligated by secular law to recognize that.
