He’s a double minority. I think they get a free first-round pick if they hire him, along with all their sins resolved.

Solid strategy.

They also interviewed Flores so I don’t think Rooney is why they interviewed Hines Ward. I think the Texans are just incompetent.

He trashed Rothlisberger for sitting out with a concussion. It was like his 5th concussion. Frick this guy.
And I don't even like Rothlisberger.

Was Brian Flores not black enough to satisfy this rule?

They changed the rule in 2020 requiring teams to interview two minority candidates, so interviewing Ward fulfilled the requirement.

quote:

In May 2020, the league changed the Rooney Rule to require teams to interview at least two external minority candidates for a head coaching job and at least one external minority candidate for a coordinator job.

Agreed. Always thought he had the right mentality and personality to be an outstanding position (WR) coach...

But straight from there, to head coach, at this point in time? Nah.

Wish the guy all the best though. He was old school tough and very fun to watch.

A lot like Jerod Mayo, he's not actually in the running for these positions yet. The entire Rooney Rule was put in place for these kinds of things, having minorities get their names mentioned for big time gigs increases their stature in the industry, or something like that. Personally, I think it's embarrassing teams have to interview a minority like they are some sort checklist item, as it dehumanizes the individual.
