First year they are expected to process 180K containers.
One of the questions I have for the port folks, is, how is that distributed between rail/road/other barge, and what is the export / import split?
If it's 50/50 import and say 1/3 rail you are looking at 30K containers coming in and 30K going out per year. That would be 80 - 100 units on the road, each day, each way. That won't shut down road systems but it surely will make an impact.

Well for one we never have had a public vote on it…
I wanted it initially, but I think Plaquemines needs this more than we do
Typical Louisiana…we want to bring investment, jobs, etc
Get the frick out of here!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The simpletons don’t realize the small businesses in their community will greatly benefit from the new site.

So that’s really not much at all. And I think barges are going to take a good chunk of that container traffic too.

Reopen MR. GO. The trip all the way up the river is too long. There’s a flood gate now. Those rock dams don’t do anything except mess up fishing.
While this sounds like a great idea, it will LITTERALLY take an act of congress.
MRGO was de-authorized, little chance it will ever be re-authorized.

Imagine all those big rigs clogging up the green bridge.

Green Bridge isn't exactly the I-10 in Baton Rouge or the CCC in New Orleans.
I never see any traffic on that bitch. Can anyone provide any actual numbers via a competent study to show the traffic will affect bridge users? I think not.

you don't need a study to know it will be a nightmare for Judge Perez until a new expressway is built

I had heard they might do a $500 million project based on renewable diesel?
Ya they have a unit that has been dormant for years they are thinking about converting.
Of course they wanted incentives and the parish was a little hesitant.

It doesn't have to be either / or. But yeah wetlands are kinda important for protection...

ETA: NVM Thought you were talking about Alliance. CR does appear to be going down the renewable diesel path

Backup
Remember... this is an area where people were told "oh trust the levees"...
I hope of course that the new levee systems will be fine but again so much of what's happening down here comes down to trust. The locals don't trust the Corps and they don't trust the Port and it's hard to say they shouldn't feel that way.

It doesn't take an engineer to realize that if the levees somehow failed again in a specific location where the wetlands would come into play, that plot of land as wetlands would do next to nothing to prevent devastation to the surround area. A couple hundred acres won't be soaking up the Gulf of Mexico, sry.

Just tell them that it will only affect Paris Road then they'll think it moved out of Chalmette into another parish and they will be happy. Most of them have no fricking idea that the road they have called the Parish road their entire life is actually named Paris Road.

Move on brah, de ol' Parish ain't comin' back.
If you want to live somewhere like the Parish used to be, you're going to need to move to rural Iowa or North Dakota.
