Anyone have recommendations for indoor grow lights?

I currently have a 4’ x 4 bulb Durolux T5HO. But wanting to upgrade, and finding out I still have a ton of Amazon rewards leftover from Christmas, I ordered this Durolux LED light that’s supposed to put out twice the lumens as the T5HO.

We are halfway through building a house and will probably be moving sometime in August, so this will be my last garden in this house.

Congrats on the new house! I’ll be anxious to see how you set up your garden at the new place. Your setup was impressive and very productive.

Hope it’s a successful final go at the old place.

Thanks . We are moving into 9 acres. I already have some garden ideas and I’m excited to get out there.

My spring garden got absolutely wrecked by all of the rain. Hopefully this spring is a bit drier.

Where do y’all order seeds from? I’m looking to plant orange Snacker peppers this year and not sure if they have them around Lafayette.

I normally order mine from Baker Creek at www.rareseeds.com and Johnny's Seeds at www.johnnyseeds.com. I have ordered random stuff from other places in the past but those are the regulars.

Just don’t order from Reimer seeds. They have a bad habit of sending people the wrong stuff.

I'm starting on peppers and tomatoes next weekend.

I expect I will have:

Potatoes - sweet and baby reds
2-3 varieties of tomatoes ~ 8-12 plants
Pickling cucumbers ~ 8 plants
2-3 each of Jalapeno, banana, poblano, and some type of spicy peppers
Squash (maybe)

My winter garden did well this year.

A 4 x 12 box each of red onions and white onions
Got my first citrus which is amazing, I can't stress that enough.
Chinese broccolini. Grows pretty well here.
Butter lettuce. I grew waaaay to much.
Carrots. Look good but haven't harvested anything yet.
Purple radishes.

I had a very small experimental garden last spring that I planted far too late. I then set up a Fall garden that didn't turn out all that well. How do you get your garden so clean and neat. Mine looks like a mess . I definitely tried to space things too tightly. But even so, I had some things that just grew all over the place. My broccoli plants are HUGE and took over an entire 4x8 raised bed when I only planted one side. However I barely have any crowns on the plants.

I may be a tad OCD.

I try to mulch if at all possible. I walk it every day or so and pull weeds. I also only grow in raised beds so I laid waste to the area below the boxes with weed killer for about a month before I placed the boxes.

So far, it has been ok. Sometimes it is a bit tedious.

I have no weeds. Just don't have beautiful, perfect rows of veggies

Mulching is the single best thing you can do to improve your garden IMO.

It helps suppress weeds (you’ll always have some, though), it conditions and improves the soil, helps retain and keep consistent moisture, helps prevent extreme temperature swings in the soil, and it just flat out makes the garden more appealing to the eye.

But like I said, I’m a bit OCD. I actually plan out my garden to scale on graph paper. I use the LSU Ag planting guide for planting times and plant spacing, and then I carefully measure everything out when planting. And I’ve somehow convinced a woman to stay married to me for over 10 years.

The look my wife gives me when we get in the car and my gardening podcast picks up where it left off is incredible.

I've been listening to the joe gardener show. It's on the apple podcast app. He is big on the full organic approach.

One thing I've decided to do since listening to his show is to start a compost pile or 2. I have always used the excuse of not having trees/leaves to throw in there but I have so much material when cleaning out the chicken coop that it won't matter. I also never thought to use shredded paper in there as well.

Who's the guy in Lafayette that's selling plants/transplants? I remember us not finding out about it until after we had planted.
