You can’t pee in Italy without paying unless you’re inside your hotel room or a nice restaurant.

Visited Pennsylvania once, mostly rural areas. I saw more confederate flags than I have seen combined in my entire life traveling through Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Florida.

Truth. I've been through rural PA several times and was amazed by the same thing.

Spent some time in Denmark. Was impressed with how helpful and cheerful most everyone was, even those doing menial jobs. Clerks at gas stations were extremely helpful, hotel receptionists would bend over backwards to help you find a place to eat. No surely attitude anywhere.

Was also surprised at how different their standard of living was for jobs similar to mine. Where we had two cars, they would have one. Our houses were twice the size. What was upper middle class there would be lower middle class here. But, they had a lot of social services (a 52% income tax will buy that). One guy I knew quit and told me he would get 80% pay for up to two years. He was a talented engineer, but he was going to take at least a year off.

The EU needs to take action---swift action to address this crisis--yes, it is a crisis for the immigrants as well as for the tax paying citizens of France and the remainder of the EU. Without action, more EU member states are going to exit, the EU will fail and along with it, if not before, the Euro.

I am still shocked at how many people don’t see these globalist entities like the EU, US government for what they are. Do they think that these immigration “crises” just happened organically out of the blue. They were planned and specifically initiated by these authoritarian bureaucrats. These assholes aren’t the solution. They are the problem that needs to be taken care of. Same thing with the bullshite Covid hysteria.

In all honesty, when I was a kid in 1986 and travelled from Ohio to New Orleans for a basketball tournament, I couldn't believe how black the city was! True...and I had grown up around some blacks, but it was noticeable in N'Orleans.

Lots of things people have already said about Europe. One thing I'll add, in England and elsewhere, I still don't get why the glasses for water are so damn small. I mean like 4-6 oz. small. That is one swig, I need more. At some of the cafeteria style places that the client offices I worked at, I would just get as many glasses as would fit on the tray with the food because I'm not getting up 10 times. And I'm talking water, just water. I'm not bitching about no ice. Beer though - that pint is an imperial pint and it's full. Make you sure you get enough of that, not these "pint" glasses here that are oddly full when you pour a 12 oz beer into them.

Ditto the literal trashiness of the south vs. other parts of the world. It's sad. I hate litterers.

No red lights in Italy, thousands of roundabouts. People drive crazy but no accidents. Everyone pays attention when they are driving.

Progressives don’t understand government is the problem. They think it’s the solution to the problems it created

Makes no sense

Born in SWLA and SETX raised, i thought I knew shithole towns until driving to Colorado. Once you pass Clovis and think “wow that’s awful”. The rest of north New Mexico says “ hold my beer”. Desolate and horrendous.

My first time visiting Miami with a wealthy acquaintance. I never knew how poor I was and what frick you money meant. There were entire neighborhoods where every home is more than my entire family's net worth will ever have. $100k+ vehicles there were like Civics anywhere else and given to seemingly every 16 yo. Heck there were people with $3m cars that were only driven when bored. And lets not talk about yachts. The fricking yachts.

If you had to posit an armchair theory for why Southerners are bigger litterers than the rest of the country, what would be your theory?

My theory: at some point, cops in the South lagged behind the rest of the country in enforcing litter laws an never caught up. The biggest causal factor may be a reluctance to continue to overburden the justice system with non-violent offenders.

The South is much redder, comparatively speaking, on this map:
