I got a standing desk that I'm using at home a couple of months ago and I'm hoping to add a little treadmill to go under it for Christmas so that I can start increasing my steps throughout the day. Getting in a 30-45 minute walk each day is great, but if I can do that + walk and work at the same time then I think I'll be able to easily get to where you're at on the steps per day thing without feeling like I'm having bail on work to make it happen.

I get my steps in while I workout. I walk to the gym (2.5 mile roundtrip) and walk during the rest period between sets. I've also started walking to the grocery store with one of the icechest backpacks if I only need a small amount of items; that one is 3.5 miles roundtrip. Both of these are on a levee trail so it's a very peaceful and calming walk.

Getting steps in gets much easier when you want to do it. Walk to the mailbox (.5 mile round trip), walk the aisles of the grocery store (STICKING TO YOUR LIST) instead of curbside, stop hunting for close parking spots, etc. Many small changes will add up quick.

my walk to the gym requires me going down two flights of stairs to the basement and I think the mailbox may be 15 steps total I get what you mean though, I have to ask my wife to not put in pick up orders to walmart specifically so that I can go inside to help me get steps in when I go to the store. Working from home makes some things easier, and some things more difficult. I've taken to marching/walking in place sometimes but I often wonder if that actually counts for anything at all since I'm not really moving.

Well, I didn't do so well over the Thanksgiving Holiday. I ate a lot of carbs to the point of making myself sick. SO, back at work this week, and back on the wagon. I didn't get on the scale, but will on Friday.

Let’s get after it folks, no need to wait until January. I’ve got 30 to lose and binge eating after drinking is the main culprit. Been working out regularly and getting stronger but the alcohol is holding me back. Decided on no alcohol at all for the next few months until I hit my goal weight. Let’s do this.

The amount of weight I've gained in a week is pretty comical. I know it's just water weight (made worse by starting back on creatine, and having a long binge after low carb) but gaining 10lbs in 4 days is pretty funny

Nice weigh-in this morning. Haven't hit the 250s and not sabotaged myself in a long time. Feels good to keep the momentum going.

I wish carb loaded, sugary things would taste gross. That would make life real easy

Sitting in the exact same spot as last week. Honestly surprised as my activity and step count were down this week.

Well, it looks like I undid most of the damage from Thanksgiving and a weekend in NOLA. Ill know officially tomorrow though.

I think I am going to start a separate thread for Lent when it starts. Im thinking about going dry and eating strict Keto/Carnivore for Lent. I know Ill need encouragement to stay the course. IDK if we need a separate thread though.

I turn 40 on Holy Thursday. I want to reach all of my goals by then.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a “no sugar” variety, that would be awesome since the peanut butter makes them not as bad as other candies.

250/245/190. Ironically I've been staying steady at 245 but muscles are getting more noticeable since I've been changing up my workout routine. Shirts fit better too, and I'm sleeping through the night again like I was at 238 or so. That being said, would like to start dropping weight again.

I am new to this thread but I have read it for some time. Here's my story.

I am a 57 year old male who ate poorly and didn't exercise for years. I am 5'9" and started 2023 at 210lbs. I got so fed up with myself around Christmas last year that I committed to cleaning up my diet, losing weight, and getting back to routine exercise. It's the same pledge I made the last ten years. In 2023, I actually did it.

I started Jan. 1, 2023 with simple calorie-tracking to ensure I was at a caloric deficit and lost 12-15 pounds over the next three months. The quantity of food I consumed decreased but the quality was still a bit sketchy. In April, I got concerning news about my heart so I started eating a diet dominated by fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins. I guess it is very Mediterranean-esque. I quit eating all junk food, starches, and sugar. I rarely eat anything out of a box/bag anymore, either. Anyhow, the clean eating made a huge difference in weight loss rate compared to straight calorie counting. This is now a permanent dietary change for me. I am not going back to a crap diet because eating clean is good for my heart and my body feels immensely better than it did for the last 15 years. I assume that's more due to the clean diet than exercise but I can't say for sure.

Regarding exercise, I didn't do much for the first half of 2023, just some sporadic cardio. In July, I started routinely walking three times a week which ramped up to six days a week by late-August. At that point, I added in some jogging which I mix with walking (so the jogging doesn't destroy what's left of my old joints). In Sept., I started weight lifting. Thanks to 777, I recently bought the book The Barbell Prescription which set me on a path to better strength. I have a ways to go with the lifting but I now have a plan and some goals. It's just a mattter of time before I achieve them and set new goals. Rinse and repeat going forward.

Back to fat-loss, I weighed in this morning at 155 lbs. Since Jan.1 , I went from wearing pants with either 38" or 40" waist to wearing 32" comfortably. I don't have a goal weight but I do have a little belly fat to loose, I am guessing 6-8 more pounds. In the end, if I keep eating clean foods and exercising then the fat loss will work itself out. I do have a few nutritional issues to tweak but that's a mattter of better plannning to add more of the right types of foods to fuel the exercise.

And now the testimonial...One of the most important benefits of eating clean is that I don't get hungry as often or as intensely as I did when I was over-eating refined sugar and simple carbs. Clean eating led to fewer temptations so I very rarely cheat. The more crap food you eat, the more crap food you will want to eat. I cannot overstate how much better I feel. I am more alert, am more alive, have almost zero aches and pains, and sleep far better than ever before. If you are looking for motivation, think about waking up in the moring being excited about life, even excited to go to work. My mood is better, my outlook on the future is better, my memory is better, just about everything is better. I have no more arthritis pain, gout is 100% gone, and my lifetime of constant runny nose and sinus issues have cleared up 95%. I am still stunned at the quick transformation to feeling healthy. Eat clean, add exercise, and you can be transformed into a fitter, happier, more satisfied and peaceful person. So if you were as unhealthy as I was, get up off of the couch, start moving, and make better eating choices. Choose 2024 as the year you break the cycle.

Hold firm folks, the new year approaches. Beach season isn't far off

Still pushing through the holidays. Things have slowed down a bit but are still going in the proper direction so I'll take it. Ready to get back to some normalcy though.
