This is an understatement. Devin White, Patrick Queen, Jacob Phillips and Damone Clark sound like Rhodes Scholars compared to that incoherent drivel Perkins belched out in that interview. He will go with whomever pays the most, which will likely be 8 & 4feit.

There must be a lot of people here who can make remarkable judgments about young folks based a few minutes of video.
I did not see anything that proved Perkins has no work ethic or that he was dishonest (or a "thief"?).
what is see if an overconfident, maybe arrogant young man who seems to have problems with sorting out proper priorities. And while he is inarticulate I am not prepared to say he is wrong if he places a high priority on money.
There are apparently a lot of very good schools, with very good fb programs willing to pay $.
Just because he doesn't choose to accept it from LSU does not mean he is evil or wrong.
Posters did not seem so eager to condemn Perkins when we appeared to have a better chance to get him.

He sounds dumb. That's what everyone is saying.

He's also making it clear that the first and only factor that will make his decision is how much money someone will put it in his hand.

You are going to have to pay these elite kids, at least the ones that don't come from good families or a little money.

I never said we wouldn’t have to. I also said in my first post that I’m sure we’re paying Howard and Campbell, who could have gone elsewhere fishing for a better offer during the coaching transition. Are they not 5 star players? Are they not the kind of guys we should focus on as the back ones of future classes?

Look, all I said is maybe it’s time to change the balance, not go all the way in the opposite direction like some of you seem to be thinking. This isn’t a binary, either/or deal.

I know that the NIL money could be a game changer, but when thats all you base your decision on !!!!!Come on man

Its not like the kid is taking money to go to Akron. You like three schools each a top 10 program one is offering money the others aren't, its a no brainer. For anyone on the board to act like all things being even they wouldn't go to the school offering money is full of it.

Also the idea that kid is lazy, self-centered, or a mercenary because they are factoring in the monetary incentives now is so much self righteous bullshite.

Kelly makes high character kids a priority. He’s done it everywhere he’s been. Those are the kids who will bust their arse for the program and not want to transfer on a whim.

Everyone loves smart, high character kids until Bama is stomping a mud hole in our arse every year with those highly rated kids we passed on. With NIL the way it is now, you’re going to have more Perkins’ attitude and less of Bech’s attitude.

If we’re not willing to play ball, other schools will jump at the opportunity.

Exactly. You pay the smart guys that are already on your program or are clear that they want to be. Boutte, Howard, etc.

Maybe Perkins will learn something. I don't think this is the last time we'll be recruiting him.

Exactly. You start having the mindset that you don’t want players that have making serious money at 18 as a priority, then might as well raise the white flag in trying to recruit on an elite level ever again. It’s only going to get worse.

So Kelly is Trent Johnson 2.0? He better get with the program. It’s clear LSU is out of it with HP and this falls squarely on Kelly for lack of focusing on the bigger picture.

Well I don't believe that at all, and if that is what major college football becomes, I'll just watch more NFL.

Maybe Kelly has focused on Perkins and decided to pass BECAUSE of the big picture.

So CBK only attempted to contact a 5-star LB from NOLA once and never followed up and you're giving him a pass?

This was the concern many of us had with CBK. His style and personality isn't gonna mesh with these young kids from the south. LSU isn't Notre Dame. We need to pull these 5 stars to compete with Bama, A&M and Georgia.

First Denver Harris and now Harold Perkins. Two kids we should've landed with their background and the new regime barely made an attempt to contact them. I'm amazed at how far most of y'all are going to excuse this crap from CBK.

You have to pay the right kids. There are plenty of kids making good NIL money on the Tigers.
The new staff needed to cut the chaff from the wheat, so to speak, but to think we aren't going to use whatever resources available to us ignores the last 20 years of LSU athletics.
We will do what it takes to remain competitive. It's all part of the Alignment.

So are we ignoring the 5 stars Kelly has already signed?

Besides, this isn't the last shot we'll get at Perkins. If he's unhappy at aggy, we can bring him to Baton Rouge on their bye week and get him to quit then and sign with us on early signing day. He starts at LSU all 2023, has great tape, then fricks off until the 2024 draft.

If we're only going to get 1 year out of some of these more fickle 5 stars, we might as well go for them after a sucker has paid for them and not put them on the field enough for their ego.

I'm not giving him a pass. There are posters in this thread saying Kelly never contacted Perkins. That's a lie.

But if Perkins really was interested, you dont think he'd try to find time to return a phone call? Or at the very least, have his uncle or someone take the call or give Kelly a good time to call back.

Oh thats right, the uncle, mr all lsu, more like mr all give me some more money.

I'll say this without getting too much into detail, we're gonna be glad he didn't end up here. Know alot of his family from the city. He's their great hope. Alot of pressure for a kid if you ask me. I hope it motivates him to work hard. The whole family feel like they made it already. There's an influx of money from somewhere. They never had it.... Oh unc is a lurker on this board

If only the family could realize NFL>NIL.

There's too much focus on NIL right now and no one is thinking about the real life changing money on an NFL contract. There's very few, if any, NIL contracts that can compete with a first round NFL contract. Put playing time and NFL first, then try to add in an NIL deal or two along the way. Also, the more he can play early, the more NIL money will come his way after getting exposure. If he goes to A&M and sits on the bench for a year he's losing 1 year of exposure for NIL potential. He goes to LSU then he gets NIL potential day 1 as he gets on the field.

Even the richest alumni aren't throwing THAT much money to the HS players without taking a loss in the end, especially one that hasn't even played a second in a school uniform.
