Trey Murphy

Really thought we had a steal with Murphy, but man he looks lost. He was supposed to be more NBA ready due to his age. Needs to play, either in the G league or on the Pels if they tank.

Herb is who we thought Trey was

If your first round pick needs seasoning in the G-league then you fricked up

The play was to trade up for Sengun… He was right there for the taking…

Yea good ole Summer League Trey He was lighting it up. Regular season not so much

To be fair he’s doing exactly what his role entails right now. Hustling on defense and rebounds while shooting threes. He just happens to be struggling with the shooting part lol

Kuminga and moody have been solid. Moody hasn’t really played in the league yet. Tho they’re both a bit younger than Murphy

He's doing everything but shooting good right now. Far more awareness on the defensive end than he showed earlier in the year

It makes you sick to think about what could have been if Griffin was capable of hitting on just half his first-round picks.

Dude, maybe give the guy more than 1/3 of a season before defining his career?
JFC yall are quick to call a career on guys if they're not superstars in their first week in the league

And if we look at all the players that got picked around 10-20 the only one who really has had success so far is Sengun who was selected right before our pick. So I don’t feel like we missed out on anyone as of now.

The OP just said he looks lost and might need to play through some things. I don’t disagree. At no point does he say he’s a bust. Settle down.

If he’s coached right I have no real concern with Trey.
I said before the season that people should temper their expectations. All this talk of him as some major meaningful contributor is incredibly out of line with even the best rookies, who are almost always net negative players their first season.
He’s got all the traits you look for, outside Herb, he’s still my favorite draft pick since Zion from a potential perspective and I still stand by it. Not saying he’ll be an elite starter, but he’ll make it as a 3 and D guy, I’ll bet anyone on it

I guess a positive for him is if BI is out for a decent amount of time, Trey will get a lot more minutes

Not true. I don’t know why it’s the case but look at pretty much any 3 point specialist. They almost all were upper classmen and they still almost all took 1-2 years to translate.
Buddy, Joe Harris, Korver, Redick. Again I don’t know why that’s the way it is, but it’s just how it seems to go.

Thats your fault for having unrealistic expectations. Trey is a spot up 3pt shooter with great length that projects to be a plus defender. He is not a guy who will create his own shoot or shoot on the move, he was drafted to space the floor for Zion.
It takes shooters time to find there range, do you remember Buddy's rookie year.

This is essentially calling him a bust.

If BI is out for an extended time you might as well just let Trey play through it and call it a season.

I think he will be fine. He will be a plus player. As long as his defense keeps developing, I have no worries about his shooting. Maybe next year he will make the leap when we will really need his shooting for Zion
