I realize my comment probably wasn’t realistic but trust me “business decisions” are coming by the Schools and the pay for play bunch will be whining when they hit.

you just described about 95% of college football players today, especially LSU players

TDP was a beast then disappeared and finally reappeared a bit this year with a few monster games but then he also disappeared for like 6 games.
12 games 1004 yards 4.8 YPC
Only 5 of those games (spread over the last 7 games) with 20+ carries - lowest total, 82 yards (against ULM, believe it or not). The other 4 games vs Kentucky (147), Florida (287), Alabama (104), and Arkansas (106).
He had 3 games with less than 10 carries per (those 3 totalled less than 20 carries).

No one should be shocked players are opting out of a meaningless bowl game for a 6-6 team. Especially guys that are looking to get drafted.
Not shocked. But this is part of the reason these guys are .500 over the last 2 years. Protect mines, business decisions, we ain't playing for nothing anyway. Lose a game or two and let the program tank because who cares about a meaningless bowl game once you're out of playoff contention.

I have enjoyed watching the bowls with lesser Division 1 teams and FCS. Those players are in to it. No weasels bowing out, transferring, fake injuries so as not to play ext. in my opinion the major conference schools should not be invited to a bowl game if not in the playoffs. College football has become a freak show.

I’m gonna find something else to do on Jan 4 also. Probably just take a long shite during the game.

Et tu, Chicke?
Are they not keeping score? Does the outcome not count as a win or loss on this season’s permanent record? Are we not wearing LSU helmets and uniforms competing against a different team wearing their school’s helmets and uniforms? Will that competition not be broadcast on national tv? Will the announcers not be uttering “LSU” for 3 and a half hours? Will the “LSU” logo not be permanently pictured for that same amount of time on the screen? Will it be painted in one of the end zones? Will there not still be a bunch of young men who committed to come and chose to play football at LSU over every other school that offered them the opportunity? Have those young men not stuck with the team and busted their asses all year—mostly in the dark while we could not see—and persisted in the face of great adversity?
Did you listen to Brad Davis’ press conference? Do you believe this game is meaningless to him? The other coaches and support staff who have stuck around, many not knowing if they will have a job on January 5th? There is a game. You play to win it. Victory. THAT is the meaning.

They aren’t paying until after the draft in April at the earliest

I wonder if any school has fleshed out signing a licensing agreement for the players NIL? The rules do expressly forbid the school from participating/influencing in a NIL deal with the player and a 3rd party. I don't recall anything expressly forbidding the school from licensing their NIL to necessarily linking it to the school (leaving out the 3rd party).

I think in clark and farrell’s case they’re both playing in postseason all-star games. It sounds weird to say a bowl game is less meaningful than that but when you look at the big picture it kinda makes sense with all the interviews and scouts in attendance.

I should have been more clear...it is definitely meaningless for those with plans to play in the NFL next season.

Oh yeah, I actually don’t begrudge either one of those dudes for not playing. Or TDP either. The timing of this game sucks for anybody who’s leaving for the pros. And it’s certainly not as meaningful as a NY6 bowl would be (I think I’d be pissed if anyone ever opts out of one of these), but it’s not meaningLESS. Specifically to the ones who did stick around and will actually be playing in it. That’s all I’m saying.

I feel your point, but amount of bowl games is worthless. You have the biggest names sitting out of the NY5 games as well. College football is starting by to die and will never go back to the days of tradition, pride, etc.

It is because the sport chose to dilute the product in exchange for greater revenue. Sometimes less=more. In the times when there were only 10-15 (at most) bowl games it was a tremendous accomplishment to make one. It meant you either won your conference or had a great record. Some guys might play 4 years and only make it to 1 bowl game. Now, you literally have the LAST place team in the SEC West with a .500 record (LSU) making a bowl game. It is almost more difficult to NOT make a bowl game now. Then, you couple that with the schedule and it creates even less desire to play in them.
Take LSU for example. The players have been working tirelessly since early August. They go through the grind of camp, then 3 months where they play 12 games in 13 weeks. Many are hurt, physically exhausted, and probably just tired of the monotony. They complete the season, then are told they have to practice for another 20 days or so just to play ONE game that, win or lose, essentially ends with the same result. The season ends. A win in the Texas Bowl doesn't advance LSU one step closer to a championship. Likewise, a loss doesn't eliminate them from a shot at winning a championship.
They won't say so publicly, but I bet if you asked these guys what they really think about the Texas Bowl many would tell you they are just ready to take a break from football for a bit. No different than any of us if we worked an intense job, 7 days a week, for 4 months.
It reminds me of an interview with former LSU/MLB player, Ryan Theriot, from a few years back. Game 7 of the world series was being played that night and the host asked Theriot, who played in a game 7 of the WS (as well as other playoff series) what were his thoughts/mindset on the day of the game 7. His first response was "relief" because he knew that win or lose the season was going to end that night. He elaborated by saying of course he wanted to win, but the season was such a long grind most of the guys were just ready for it to be over so they could take a step away for a bit. And that was ahead of the game where the winner would achieve the highest accomplishment in the sport. So imagine the mindset of a guy ahead of a game where win or lose you don't really accomplish anything of great significance?
As a 40 year old on the outside looking in you look at the kids and say "cherish every opportunity to you get to play because the time to do so is so short and precious." But from the 20 year old's perspective who has had to live through the grind for several months he is just ready for a break.

I agree that expanding the playoffs make these games more significant. Eliminate all the others in my opinion.

TDP isn't getting faster or stronger. He is what he is and his chances in the NFL will likely not change. May as well go get that clock started sooner.
