I have put it off for a few years. I don't think material and labor prices are coming down next year or anytime soon. Ida has basically brought me to this point, since I need a contractor to do stuff anyway.

Anybody in the industry with any insight? I guess the estimates I get in January 22 won't be any lower than January 23, or vice versa.

I would be more concerned about availability that prices right now.

Are you talking walls, drywall, flooring, or cabinets in the kitchen?

I think prices are up but Kige toured for you LINK and this was months ago...

Do it - so you can enjoy it sooner.

I tried timing the housing market for 4 years and I’m an idiot in hindsight (when I could have been enjoying a new house for the past 4 years).

Good Luck with Everything!

Whether you want to or not, in 2022, you are going to do butt stuff.

And by "do" it, I mean you are going to take it.

Up
the
butt
Bob.

From the start of your project until after it's done, because it won't really be done due to the shitty workmanship out there.

Have a nice renovation!

So, basically, I am getting anally raped by a bunch of Mexicans.

I'm open to it.

Go ahead and do it now, their schedules might not be absolutely crammed like they will be.

This. Labor and materials are going to be bigger issues than prices. Yeah, prices are high, but they aren't coming down. Might as well go ahead and get in line now.

Estimates? Friend, you’ll get those easily.

Getting projects started with materials? Good luck.

I signed a contract in March for a pool renovation that just finished tile this week and a front entry renovation with a custom door in May that still hasn't started because of material shortages.

My advice, sign as early as you can and expect 3-4x longer to complete so patience is required.

I just finished two major home renovations.

It was awful.

Lazy contractors.
Out of control material prices.
Intolerable delays.

Until, every time, I got in contact with a Spanish speaking immigrant.

The individual jobs were done in no more than 2 days.

Find Javier, Jose, and Miguel before you start. I would start another renovation with my guys I have now.

(No you can’t have their real names)

Go ahead and spend the kids and grandkids inheritance. They'll still get the house that you enjoyed living out your old age in. Hell, we just spent over a 100 grand a couple of months ago remodeling our house that cost me 60 grand back in 1986.

I just finished one. Set budget last year. Pretty much finished right on the number with no overruns. My contractor did put a cushion in there on all line items but with inflation we didn't exceed the cushion. He billed me actual cost plus a fixed fee. He did amazing work.

I took the downstairs to the studs just about. Moved plumbing, moved laundry, complete new kitchen, moved ducts and 2 new hvac systems. New Master bath... Painted everything and made the place beautiful. Too much to list.
