He deserves it tbh
Not really. But he did deserve consideration because of this:

UL graduate that has studied under the winningest coach in program history. Makes sense to me.
But you still should look for a more proven candidate first. They may have done that, though.
Hope he kills at HC.

Wow what a lazy hire. Obviously can't predict the future or how it will work out but it's uninspiring for sure. A USL good ole boys hire. I'm surprised Maggard tied himself to it given the ambition he's shown in the past.
Feels like a desperate attempt to try to keep in place the culture/success of the Napier era by hoping Desormeaux can keep it going. Nevermind the fact that Napier is taking key pieces of the staff with him to Florida and Desormeaux doesn't have a network of connections as he's never coached anywhere but UL.
With what Napier did to build this program, it should be a desirable destination for any coach to get his career starter. Instead we go the lazy route and hire a guy for 2 reasons
1. He was on Napiers staff
2. One of us
Lazy.

Players are excited...
and Tayland Humphrey tweeted out some goat emojis.
Very much like a Marcus Freeman situation.

Billy Napier was a pretty good hire for a G5 school
It doesn’t seem like the AD performed a search. This was probably decided months ago.

Well so much for this being a “very desirable” job like a Cajun tried to tell me last night lol
If you don't think it's a very desirable job, you're the idiot. The team just won 10+ games for three years in a row and the coach just left for $7.5 million per year in the SEC. Once again, don't be a fricking idiot.

Great. Back to that yearly rival with McNeese.

Yikes. This is way too risky
He was coaching at LCA just a couple years ago. The program is in a pivotal position to be an upper tier G5 school and idk if this is the right way to go

I would have brought Rob Sale home. This seems like the easy, giving into the players, Larry Coker-like move
Yeah Rob Sale seemed like a shoo in almost too obviously perfect move. As much as I cant stand ULL I would have had to tip my hat with a Sale hire. This just seems dumb

What a terrible hire…they must really be broke.

He was at Ascension, not LCA, but yeah. He's been with the Cajuns for 6 years now so he has relationships with all the high school coaches in Louisiana already.

Fake news. That bitch was packed

Some of you are really fricking stupid. Napier was making $2 million per year and they just got $3 million in a buyout from Florida.

Ah shite it was Ascension

ULL was primed to be at least an late 2000s Arkansas state app state to become an up and comers head coach destination.
Maybe he can be successful but seems like a big risk at what could have been a turning point for the program

This is what happens when you don't have fan support. I honestly can't blame ULL for promoting a shitty former QB.
