Is Griff's next big task bringing in the free agents?

Self admitted newbie fan, but I've seen a lot of "no one wants to come play here". Griff has knocked it out of the park with how he handled the AD trade and working draft assets, along with dumping Hill's contract to create cap space. He's doing great work to change the perception and culture of this team, but I think the next big piece of this puzzle is getting a name to want to come here. I can't see why someone wouldn't want to sign, but I've yet to hear us mentioned in regards to any player on the market.

Middleton? Redick? Both were making $12-13 million, but veteran shooters I know we could probably use.

Talking out of my arse, for sure. But I'm curious how Griff attacks free agency now.

He will bring in some shooters, either through FA or trades.

I’m thinking that Griff uses the cap space to eat a less desirable contract in exchange for picks.

Lots of teams who are chasing big game right now who could use more cap space if it looks like they will land someone.

Curious what their price would end up being.

ETA I've always liked Reddick from his Magic days, but I honestly don't know where he's at in his career, downslope I'm sure.

ETAA Just looked and he's about to enter his 16th season. Like his numbers, but might not be the best investment.

Middleton is getting maxed. I could see Redick come in around 13 mil again on a one year deal.

ETA: worst case for Redick would be MLE (which is around 9 mil)

If Reddick is willing to take a MLE, it’s hard to believe he would take ours

Yup same thought.

You're not going to get a lot of high level guys that want to come in and play with a lot of young pups. Vets want to play with other vets that have a chance to win playoff games, for the most part.

But you can absorb vets on short term contracts for picks, and sign mid level guys with the right attitudes and attributes.

Redick took a pay cut last year to play for a contender. He’s worth more like $16-17$ mil a year market price.

As long as the “bad contracts” aren’t long term deals like Love and preferably one year deals, I’ll allow it. Establish us as competitive and go in with cap next year.

I’d like to make a run at Vucevic, but I’m not sure where he fits in what they want to do now. I fully expect us to make a run at Mirotic though.

correct

Middleton will get a max & Reddick will get north of 15 mil since he's one of the best shooters in the league

Guys y'all should be looking at are guys like SF & C
>SF = Rudy Gay, DeMarre Carroll, Jared Dudley
>C = Dewayne Dedmon Pau Gasol, Kyle O'Quinn
>and add JJ Barea as a vet minimum

we will look to overpay 2 of these guys for 2 seasons
-Rudy Gay 2yr/$30 mil
-Dewayne Dedmon 2yr/$30 mil
-JJ Barea vet minimum

We'll only have the room exception, unless we're pulling off some other trade that brings in large salary.

after this year we won't have much money to spend on FA. we will have to pay Ingram next off season.

Right now the veterans should be on short contracts.

The year to swing for the fences will be in three years. Prior to Zion and Hayes getting their restricted max contracts.

Jrue Holiday will be a free agent but so will Paul George, Steph Curry, Lebron James, and possible Russell Westbrook, James harden, and John Wall who all have players options

There’s no one worthwhile in the next 2 years anyways. Griffin has always had a knack for trading so it’s not even a big deal.

We can cross that bridge when we get to it. Who knows how his health is and if he'll even pan out here.
