Minneapolis destroyed itself for BLM — was it worth it?

More than three years after George Floyd’s death at the hands of police, it is clear that Minneapolis allowed the Black Lives Matter movement to destroy it. Was it all really worth it?

Minneapolis’s police staffing shortage has now reached an all-time low, with just 585 officers on the job. For reference, the city had 888 officers in 2019 and 638 officers in early 2021. The city is now relying heavily on other police departments, and has an officer-to-resident ratio that is nearly half the national average. The decline isn’t slowing either, as the city has already lost 45 officers this year.

Unsurprisingly, crime still has not returned to pre-pandemic (before Floyd’s death) numbers. Violent crime is still up 11% compared to the five-year average before 2020, and the city’s 260 gunshot victims through the first eight months of the year is higher than any recorded number before 2020.

And all of this stems from the city being the launching point for Black Lives Matter’s resurgence. City leaders stood idly by as rioters burned down buildings and looted stores. They joined activists and some Democratic politicians in calling for the abolition of the city’s police department, going as far as to put it to a vote (which voters rejected). They made it clear that police officers in Minneapolis had no defenders among city leadership at the same time celebrities and Democratic politicians helped bail out rioters so they could continue to destroy the city.

IMHO, this was about the 2020 election as much as destroying Minnesota as a potential GOP flip.

People are now fleeing Minny for greener pastures, many of them older and more likely to vote GOP, even in a state that hasn’t gone red since McGovern-Nixon.

I know many here salivate at the idea of their fellow Americans who live in blue cities and states suffering, but there is a
nationwide police shortage.

Obama resettled 20K+ refugees from Somila & that now radicalized Muslim population basically has its own inner city & has a large say in the City's politics.

And how much of that is caused by the changing legal and political environments in which cops doing their jobs are drug across the coals?

The two cops in the BR case were cleared by a board and reinstated but the mayor had them illegally fired at large cost to the taxpayers along with doing a major payout to the deceased’s family, which included an accused child molester.

Idk. There are very few cops in New Orleans too and cops never get “drug across the coals” for anything here.

People don’t want a risky job that pays peanuts. It has nothing to do with anything else.

I know two people that live in the Minn/St. Paul area and both have told me recently they hope to leave soon.

Said every night on the news it’s something different they never use to see.

NOPD is under a consent decree which heavily cuts their ability to do anything. And a number of officers bailed from there because they weren’t getting paid enough to deal with the bullshite they had to deal with.

Take a guess as to why there is a national shortage, I am sure it will come to you if you think hard enough

The extent of this is not widely known.

Just one incident involving the consent decree that we remember fondly over here.

Late one night the cops had trapped two geniuses in a commercial establishment on Chef Menteur Highway that they'd broken into.

Before the cops could move in they had to call mayor Mitch and the federal monitor for the decree, both of whom had to be present at the scene before any further steps could be taken.

So Mitch had to drag himself out of bed at 2:30am and be at the scene so that the cops could complete the arrest.

Doesn't get better than that.

585 cops? Why are they even there? The city administration hamstrings them, the populace has been encouraged to hate them and the justice system favors the criminal. I mean why bother? If you are a good cop and want a job, there are lots of other cities that will hire you.

The problem that I have with this is, police departments rank & file have for decades refused to hold bad cops accountable for their actions. The whole blue wall thing. Still to this day even after all the covid craziness. You have large numbers of cops across the country violating people's rights because they can get away with it. Nobody is holding them accountable in any meaningful way. Now you have a lot of good cops, in shitty situations getting over punished, micro managed, and watched like never before. Which is the main reason for the exodus. It's a thankless, dangerous job. And it's not worth the headaches for the money they pay them.

With all that said, i don't feel sorry for any cops because of their current situation. I also don't feel sorry for any of these cities where they have crime, and no cops to police it. They asked for it, now stew in your mess. Same goes to the police force. By violating people's rights just because, now you are in a shitty situation too. Stew in it.

you should record the local news in BR and NOLA and send that to them. then tell them to quit their bitching...they probably voted for it.
