Golf Lessons for Juniors?

My 9 year old son has expressed an interest in golf recently. I'm about a 15 handicap, and don't have the knowledge to give proper instruction, but looking forward to the opportunity to bring him to play and enforce teachings.
Not a member of a club, but it would be more palatable to join if I had another family member playing golf, so that isn't off the table if it's needed for lessons.
I think my ideal scenario would be to have a college golfer (or recent grad) that is looking for extra money and can help teach fundamentals once or twice per week.
Any suggestions?

Location may help.
Also, there is a golf board. They will likely be more helpful if you post over there.

Most clubs have group lessons for kids that age that are pretty good. I wouldn't spend the money on 1:1 until he gets some experience and you know he likes it.

My daughters are younger (7 & 5) and we got them both in a weekly golf camp for the last few months at our country club. The oldest is really into it and we are getting her a new set of clubs for Christmas. She might be graduating into more individual lessons next year. Another option outside country clubs is looking up local first tee programs.
I also wouldn't sink a bunch of money into it at first. A lot of kids get interested into it then fall off. See if you can find any used kids clubs on something like facebook marketplace.

Yeah that would probably be ideal as well. Thanks

I saw this, but the options are really inconvenient for us due to location and time.

Agree, but now as an adult, I can appreciate the value of getting solid fundamentals and muscle memory working in his favor, so I'd like to put him in a position that would be favorable for enjoying the sport.

1st tee runs camps at several course around BR.. I'd look into that to start.
I've also taken my youngest daughter who started to show a little interest to Chris Burkstaller at The Island for her first lessons .. He's good with kids.

Do you know what the fees are for these two?

I second Rob Murphy in Zachary at Copper Mill. He teaches our boys and myself. He's great with the juniors

Unfortunately, Zachary isn't a reasonable option for us for lessons.

Keep him focused on left arm straight. I see so many terrible backswings in juniors.
Group lessons will not build a swing, need 1on1 instruction. Call any nice public course and ask for a private lesson.

Coming from someone who has extensive tennis experience with juniors, big group lessons are not a good idea and the best way to have a kid hate golf/tennis
It just isn’t a sport where you can have a big group and be productive. 2 kids is ok, 3 MAX to a coach when young
Anymore they are standing around and it’s babysitting
I used to be extremely honest with parents. If you are using it for your kid to socialize and get out of the house? No biggie. If you actually want your kid to get better and maybe take up the sport it’s a complete waste

Look at “Operation 36” and check local courses that offer the program. I have my kids in it and they love it.
They run drills and learn something to start the day. Then practice a skill in a small competition setting. Twice a session they have tournaments to “graduate”. Students start 25 yards from the hole and once they can shoot 36 on 9 holes, they “graduate” further and further back till eventually they tee off at the box.

My strong - very strong suggestion is to invest in the best coach in your area - and DO NOT TO DO GROUP lessons or “junior camps” - I made plenty of mistakes with my daughters but they are now on a great path - both made it to Augusta for the DCP Finals and my older one is in the top 100 nationally in her class and the younger one is coming on strong…
Looking back the biggest mistake I made was not vigorously finding the best coach in the area - that teaches the right fundamentals- and it’s often not the one with the most followers of the head of a junior academy.
If cost is an issue - always - and I mean always - choose instruction over equipment at this age … I can’t stress how critical having a great coach who teaches the right fundamentals is … and most often - if you buy a huge chunk of lessons upfront - like 30 which is what I do - you get a significant discount
I see so many parents wasting money and actually doing more harm than good throwing money at the wrong things and I can reflect and know I did some of this too - learn from my mistakes sir and find a great instructor regardless of cost and go with them…
