The Office: Jim is a Jerk

I'm rewatching episodes from The Office and I find myself feeling sorry for Roy and Dwight, and disliking Jim.
Roy works hard in an office warehouse and has a fiancee that works as a receptionist. Jim, a salesman, goes out of his way to flirt with Roy's fiancee all day. Roy overlooks it and is happy she has a friend.
Then, as the wedding approaches, and after the deposits are made, Jim confesses his feelings to Pam and kisses her.
Pam breaks up with Roy. Roy is devastated and turns to alcohol. After a DUI, he cleans up his life and dedicates himself to winning Pam back.
Dwight, one of Jim's co-workers is another target. The co-worker only wants what is best for the office, and is the top performer at the company. He's also socially awkward, likely from his sheltered/unusual upbringing. Jim uses his co-worker's sheltered upbringing and lack of social skills to ruthlessly mock and torment him.
Jim is a jerk.

The actress who plays Pam is extremely sexy and her real life husband looks like a pathetic pansy

In an actual office, Dwight would be viewed as a victim and Jim would have been fired during season 1.
Dwight would also have been fired in season 7 for the fire drill.

Roy only loved Pam for her tits. Jim loved Pam for her soul. Toby loved Pam for her tits, too.

I'd be willing to bet that every hard working field baw who has a wife that works in an office has some pencil necked unappreciative smart arse like Jim trying to lay pipe. The only thing The Office got wrong was not having Jim's character named Jody.

I love the episode with the snowball fight.

It's like the rewatch of parks and rec. Leslie Knope is a manipulative sociopath with little to no redeeming qualities - i mean that was pretty obvious on the first watch but going into it with that knowledge makes you hate her even more on the rewatch. Why the other characters like her so much is beyond me.

She used to be married to the guy who writes/directs the guardians of the galaxy flicks, so she must be into weird looking dudes.

Jim is just smug.
He thinks he's way more clever and smarter than he actually is.
Proof is when somebody doesn't buy his bullshite or he's not understanding something with a group of strangers and he looks totally surprised.
"Wow, I did not see that coming."

I hate Jim and Pam. They think they're so much better than everyone else.
They become completely insufferable when they get married. They act like they are Brad & Angelina. In reality, they are dumpy middle class people. Pam is a decent looking uneducated receptionist with great tits. Jim is an immature, slacker salesman at a midlevel paper supply company.

In fricking Scranton. Oh but wait, Jim is going to move to the big city with his new sports marketing company that doesn't exactly exist yet, so he's even more important than he already thought he was!
Total douchebag.

And a sports marketing company that half the time tells him...uh, we don't actually need you here.
And Jim went to the University of Scranton...SAT scores median...1050.
Jim always came across as that guy in high school who is a smug wise-cracker but gets average grades and is a backup guard on the basketball team who never really gets in the game so cracks jokes about the real players on the bench.

Seeing them humbled were some of my favorite moments on the show.

That's a solid description IMO.
I did like Jim, but he definitely was a smug punk a lot of times. And he and Pam were definitely better than everybody else in the office on a lot of occasions and that got super annoying.

I liked Jim & Pam for the most part...but during my rewatch I saw them in a slightly different light more along the lines of OP. I'm not sure I'd go so far as to call him a downright jerk, but there were definitely some unlikable characteristics about the character especially during the last 2 seasons.

half these posts mention Pam's tits.

Jim is a lot like Mox from Varsity Blues. Makes fun of everything he doesn't like until he's put in a situation to like it, then it's 'cool'. Pretty much a shithead who constantly needs to justify the fact he's a loser.

I agree my favorite "looks at the camera" were the few they allowed Jim to be punked and that smug look on his face disappeared.
