There has been a disturbance in the force, as screenwriters Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson have exited the Star Wars project that Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy remains slated to direct, Above the Line has exclusively learned.
Lindelof and Britt-Gibson turned in a draft of the script in mid-February and parted ways with the project just days later, according to sources. Lucasfilm already has a new writer on board, though ATL was unable to ascertain their identity. Production is slated to start in February 2024 ahead of the film’s planned release date on Dec. 19, 2025.
Plot details remain under wraps, but the top-secret project is going to be unveiled at Star Wars Celebration next month along with its title and a brief synopsis, though don’t expect any casting announcements just yet.

My god

My prediction is this project will die too...
And Disney will re-calibrate to actually giving a shite about making good films instead of activism. At some point. I already see the worm turning a bit

I was about to post that exact same quote.
I guess Disney will wake up one day to the exact reasons why they are having issues. Turning a property like Star Wars into something that the masses don't want to consume is actually pretty impressive.

I want to be surprised by this, but I am not

It's truly impressive how much of a disaster Disney's Star Wars has been.

Maybe this is a chance to use real directors instead of the Burger King kids club

I can't really remember the last time Disney put out anything worth a crap on their own. They are completely in the modern corporate vulture mode of buying the creativity they don't have. The problem is, eventually you have to do something with the "intellectual properties" you buy and Disney stopped being a creative company a long time ago.

Star Wars is basically a dead IP at this point. The sequels were so creatively bankrupt they can’t do anything in that era. The new actors don’t want to do any more Star Wars either so they can’t continue those stories either. And Disney clearly doesn’t have the balls to bet hundreds of millions on more prequel movies. They are screwed

I saw the directors of Everything Everywhere All at Once are going to destroy their career momentum by directing episodes of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, whatever that is.

Franchise on life support. Don't really GAF either way.

It’s like watching Farleys early sales scenes in Tommy Boy enacted in real life.

DL should be working on the next Lost or Leftovers, not piling on the destruction of Star Wars, Star Trek or Marvel. He and his ilk have done enough.

That says it all right there, wow. If they can't settle creative differences with those guys then they must want some fricked up shite.
