So a buddy moved to Dallas and bought a house just a little over $350,000 and states his additional taxes are $1,000 a month. He doesn’t have kids. WTF is up with that BS? So he basically paying almost $12,000 in taxes. So your mortgage isn’t $1500 but $2500 a month.

With no state income tax, got to get it from somewhere.

High property taxes, but no state income tax. And you get better schools and roads

Yep.
People who always tout the ‘no state income tax’ almost always fail to realize this .

Texas property tax is high... but you have complete control of how much you pay in taxes.
Don’t want to pay a shite ton, don’t buy a shite ton of house.

Welcome to Texas. Have to admit if you are single their is little benefit to owning ur own property with Homeowners taxes the way they are. Seems like there would be some form of incentive or discounts with the no kids single folks.
Another piece of interest is that Trump made it so starting in 2018 you can only claim at most $10,000 in Homeowners taxes.

He poor. Texas prop taxes are very, very high since the state doesn't fund anything. I would gladly take a state income tax over the property tax boondoggle. At least with an income tax, I pay it based on what I earn. property taxes are based on what I may earn in the future. My prop taxes have doubled the last 3 years but my income is the same.

Fock that. If I had kids is one thing. Being single or married without kids is getting raped. I’m good

Overall taxes are still lower than Louisiana. It's like 1% so roughly 1k per year if you make 100k. Texas is a much more functional state though.

I'd honestly rather pay a sales tax than any of those. Property taxes mean that you never own your home and income dives into your paycheck.
Errrbody gets to join in the fun of a sales tax. Crackhead, prostitute, illegal, yep you too

It pays off in the end. Everything about Texas is better

I also argue it provides an incentive to redevelop depressed areas, which is a good thing.
Not a perfect system by any means.

Uh no state income tax and you don’t have to pay out the arse for private school if you live in the burbs.
