Why did it take so long for Nashville to be as popular as it is today?

More than 90 new hotels have been constructed in Nashville since 2013, contributing more than 14,000 rooms to the city's accommodation offerings, according to the Nashville Chamber of Commerce. In the past year alone, hotel expansion has generated more than $2 billion in revenue.

Is this sustainable for the city or is it merely going through the "can’t miss" cool city at the moment?
They’ve had an NFL and NHL franchise for years now. The country music scene and bars on Broadway are nothing new either.
Just seems like Nashville has always been a place you’ve heard about and probably have been to, but the recent surging popularity has kind of come out of nowhere.

Reminds me of Atlanta in the ‘90s (maybe ‘80s too, idk)

Even before the Covid bum explosion the few times I went to Nashville it had more bums that any city I'd ever been to. I can't imagine what it's like now. Trashy city with shiny lights.

Nah, i think part of the appeal of Nashville is it’s NOT Atlanta .. still has a bit of small town feel, and is actually a good size but not too big.. ive always heard Nashville is like Austin but 10 yrs behind, probably true for better or worse .

No idea but my Sconnie SIL absolutely loves "girls trips" to Nashville.

I almost accepted a job there recently but decided to stay in Texas. The lower property taxes were tempting

Well I’m not talking about Atlanta in 2023

Nope, that’s been gone for a while now.

Nashville is a banking hub. Before all the entertainment stuff. Money is money.

It’s also a healthcare hub… several of the countries largest healthcare corporations reside here.

All relative my man.. compare Nashville to HOU or ATL and by just about every metric it’s much smaller.. of course “feel” is by definition hard to quantify .

Maybe it’s just that I remember the Nashville of 15 to 20 years ago. It may not be Houston, but there’s no small town feel.

Compared to Atlanta it prob does.

Healthcare hub, Banking hub, Country Music hub, several Universities including Vanderbilt, plus low taxes make it a desirable place. Many decent jobs there. Add in the country side around Nashville is nice also.

Because Californians didn't completely finish destroying California until the last 15-20 years. They all picked up and moved east.

A big chunk of the entertainment industry fled there from California, taking lots of Californians with them. It also got this rep for bachelorette weekends which have become an overwhelming cliche.

Atlanta in the mid 90’s especially the Buckhead area was very popular. The summer Olympics of 96 certainly helped too.

Property taxes in Williamson and Travis counties are insane. Like over $1,100 a month in some cases.
