NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Following the conviction of John Honore, the last teenager implicated in the Mid-City carjacking and murder of Linda Frickey, her husband Rickey Frickey is advancing a lawsuit against the parents of the involved youths.
Honore, 18, was found guilty of second-degree murder. His co-defendants, Briniyah Baker, 17, Lenyra Theophile, 16, and Mar’Qel Curtis, 16, had earlier pleaded guilty to attempted manslaughter.
The lawsuit, filed on March 21 in Orleans Parish Civil District Court, seeks over $50,000 for wrongful death, loss of income, and emotional suffering. The lawsuit was put on ice until the end of the case, according to the attorney for Rickey Frickey, Donald Hodges Jr.
“In this instance, it’s about proving that parents will be held responsible and liable for acts such as this,” Hodges said.
FOX 8 Legal Analyst Joe Raspanti believes if a jury does award a judgment, the challenge is collecting payment.
“Civil lawsuits are about money, just about money,” Raspanti said. “It’s not about the principal about the thing, it’s not about anything else other than we want to collect money damages. If you can get a judgment, but not collect money, than it is basically a pyrrhic victory.”
Frickey’s attorney is discussing with his attorney the possibility of expanding his lawsuit.
Hodge said, “We are considering options that could possibly include the City of New Orleans, the Office of Juvenile Justice, the State of Louisiana and various actors that we believe that the people involved here have had an ongoing problem that contributed to this culture that lead to the death and murder of Mrs. Frickey.”
Raspanti said, “This is an uphill climb because they have to get liability against the parents or these other entities which will to a varying degree be difficult to do. Once you do that, the collection of those judgments will be an even larger mountain to climb. This is an uphill battle.”

I understand being pissed but this seems like more trouble than it’s worth. I’d probably do it too though.

Rickey Frickey. That’s a hard name to say without pretending you’re a dj scratching a record.

All he’s gonna get is a used up LA Purchase card and a beat up 1997 Nissan maxima

These frivolous lawsuits are chasing business out of Louisiana.

1. If he found the fathers, he deserves applause.
2. None of the parents will have any money worth going after.

I agree but if they have any assets, home or otherwise, a judgement allows him to place liens on those assets. In the long run someone might get something

He’s not suing a business because he slipped and fell….

The part about going after the system is interesting. Are there mandatory holds for criminals that commit certain crimes? I could see some liability of the person were released early and committed a crime when they should’ve been in jail.

About 350 if I had to guess, glad to see someone taking some folks to court to point out their failures though.

Hopefully one day he gets some kind of closure but this type of lawsuit doesn't do anything.
He will end up paying legal fees and whether he gets a verdict or not, he will never see anything financially from it other than his satisfaction from suing bad parents.
Then again, due to nature of crime, maybe he doesn't really care.

He should just kill all of them. It is the only justice he will get.

Probably will never collect.
