"EV advocates claim that the cost of electricity for EV owners is equal to $1.21 per gallon of gasoline (Edison Electric Institute, 2021), but the cost of charging equipment and charging losses, averaged out over 10 years and 120,000 miles, is $1.38 per gallon equivalent on top of that. Adding the costs of the subsidies to the true cost of fueling an EV would equate to an EV owner paying $17.33 per gallon of gasoline," study authors Brent Bennett and Jason Isaac write.

Toyota estimated that 90 hybrid batteries can be made from the same amount of raw materials as one EV battery and that those hybrids will reduce emissions 37 times more over their lifetime than one EV (McParland, 2023). However, hybrids receive far fewer subsidies and regulatory favors than EVs, as the prevailing political consensus is 'all EV or nothing.'"

You sure that isn't 17 Deutsche Marks per liter?

Kinda like the Jimbo Fisher hire.

They’re making a claim without evidence to back it. The $17 is not substantiated.

I think this was discussed about a week ago here.... went like all the other EV threads....

Don't forget the cost to replace and dispose of the 1,500+ lb batteries in those frickers.
Not to mention the environmental impact of cobalt mining and the child slave labor.
EVs are a very expensive virtue signal, nothing more

Burning a tire produces a fraction of the emissions as making one EV battery

There’s no way that anyone with half a brain would believe that it actually costs over $17/gallon equivalent. That’s so absurd. And all this coming as “claims” from a company trying to get people to buy their hybrids. Yeah, I believe them 100%…sure.

I'm sure we could arrive at at a much higher cost per mile than advertised, especially if we're going to remove government subsidy from the equation

Old, and I'm totally room temp on EV and think it's all a pipe dream in terms of replacing petroleum, but this math looks suspect at the very least. I don't get it.

EVs are China’s attempt to monopolize the global energy source, nothing more
Just them trying to oust petroleum in favor of batteries where they have a lockdown on much of the world’s rare earth metals. Trying to position themselves like Saudi was in the petroleum era. All this climate change bs is pushed by the CCP.

A gallon of gas can be put in your car in 20 seconds. Try that with lectric

Drove an ev recently with 320 mile range.
Got to an area where I had to charge up or else get stranded due to lack of charging stations on next 200 miles.
Charged for 15 minutes and got half battery which cost $20.
That’s roughly 14 cents a mile
Cost per mile isn’t the issue.
It’s the loud road noise.
The horrible ride. The questionable build quality.
The lengthy recharges even at fast chargers.
The obnoxious gizmo crap.
The mapping of charging stations for long trips.
I would not own one today.

Welcome to the OT.
One of the other real smart fellows just posted this same crap on the PT board too. Probably a lot of upvotes for his thread.

I’m kinda amazed people over there are calling it BS too. But we’ll certainly get a few really golden replies at some point.

But can you of a gallon of gas in your sleep?

Every mile I travel in my EV, $7000 is automatically transferred to my bank account. See, I said it so it must be true.

But since you brought up that irrelevant nugget, you spend more of your time getting gas in your car than I do charging my car, so now what?
