Men with pill addict wives - do you let them around the kids?

In my wife's family, we've cut out a member because she is an addict and the long and short is that person harmed a child that required hospitalization (for the kid).
Her husband acts like there's nothing wrong. Last week at a family party/ event, they showed up and my wife, her mom, and sisters did a show of force and didn't let them enter. The wife was -of course - high af but they brought their own kids along. No one cares if their feelings were hurt although it definitely disappointed their own children.
It made me realize how many men have addict wives. How do these men allow their addict wives to be part of their kids lives?

A bunch of our moms let us grow up around alcoholic dads. I guess it’s like that?
I’m grateful this isn’t something I have to deal with.

Most of the pill addict mothers I know are not married and are shacking up with other addicts. Fortunately most of them have their children removed by CPS.

Are these drugs she is prescribed? Or are we talking like a crack addict?

Hand in the cookie jar, foot on a Banana peel, head in the clouds.

It’s very hard for some people to accept someone close to them like a spouse parent or sibling isn’t who they thought they were or supposed to be.
The brain plays tricks to be easily manipulated by them. You want to believe they’re changing or not trying to hurt anyone but in reality they are/aren’t.
I dealt with this with my dad whose an alcoholic. After he left my family he told me he didn’t really drink that much anymore and what not. Well a few days after that I saw him walking out of a liquor store on a Tuesday evening with a handle bottle of rum. I saw my therapist about it bc I felt so stupid believing it even though he had lied several times about this throughout my life. And she explained it to me in the manner in which I just described. It why you see kids who are molested by their parents having a hard time turning them into the authorities. They want to believe so badly that this isn’t their life.

Nope, just generic opioids & denial. Think a lady Kendall Roy from Succession but less intense and more a slurring Gweneth Paltrow.

Why didn’t you let your nieces/nephews stay and tell the parents that they could just pick them up later. It’s not their fault that they have a POS mom.

So is there some good reason someone in your wife's family hasn't called CPS if you're that worried about the kids' safety?
Also, probably worth noting if all they're doing is shite talking this guy's wife he probably doesn't feel supported enough to actually fight for his kids. Just a thought though.

It may still be better for the guy to stay married in today's anti-male judicial system. May even be better for the kids to have a semi-normal father in house too.
Just shows, always better to not marry and/or reproduce with the wrong person.

They also know what the person used to be, and think they can become that again. The problem is, youre never going to see that person again.
