Do any of y'all ever take a few moments to check out animal action live streams? Bears in the Spring, Humming birds in late summer/early fall, Eagles nesting? I sometimes like to check them out for a few minutes here and there. I'm often stuck in an office behind a PC all day so it provides a quick connection back to nature.

Also, inb4 who cares, eat a dick, dear facebook, PIHB, etc. Happy Thursday!

Hummingbirds

Bears in Alaska (currently showing highlights from this past spring)

You have good timing. I've watched the bears in Katmai Alaska for a few years. Each year they have a contest to vote for fattest bear.

Today starts the voting for Fat Bear Jr. for the fattest cub.

Vote early, vote often

I like the Yukon Trail Cam page on Facebook. Lots of brown and black bear, moose, mountain lions, occasional wolverine, deer, and the critters

The fighting here is due to being on mating grounds. Usually the first male back will "claim" an area. All Hummingbirds set up what can be compared to a trotline. They have a trail of food sources they visit at regular intervals throughout the day. Males, especially, do this as females have to stick closer to the nest when they have young. These lines can have conflict because sources within the line can be claimed by other birds, leading to defense of the food source.

Most of those live cams, especially this time of year, are in extreme south Texas or other southern areas along the migration route. There the birds don't fight much for two reasons. The first being because their primary concern is fueling up for the trip across the Gulf. The other is that those grounds have not been "claimed" as the others had. Fighting at that point wastes energy and prevents them from stockpiling reserves. That's also why they all look bigger in those feeds.

Another interesting note, you can walk outside on your property, you can drive down the road and look around, you can visit friends miles from home, and you aren't likely to lay eyes on a single area that hasn't been scouted by a Hummingbird. They're some of the best food source scouts in the animal kingdom.

I found out about the bear live stream where they're posted up near the small waterfall and snagging the salmon trying to jump up from this place a couple years ago. Now I look forward to it every spring and will waste so much time at work watching it. Love it.

I used to think sea otters were so dadgum adorable...until I read this article. I'm not sure it's more fact or satirical though.
